WeaverOfLies
I need to talk about Yan Guifang and Bei Qinghuan because this mother-daughter relationship is genuinely one of the best things in this novel. When Bei Qinghuan comes back from dealing with Mei Suqin, her mom is already proud of her—giving her a thumbs up like they're teammates who just won a round. And then when Bei Qinghuan explains her plan about the application form, Yan Guifang immediately gets it. No confusion, no nagging, just understanding. That moment when she says 'That's the pot calling the kettle black!' and they both laugh together? Chef's kiss. But what really got me is the brief moment where Yan Guifang's smile fades when Bei Qinghuan mentions fighting during her five years in the countryside. She hugs her daughter and her heart aches. This woman has been through hell and back with her kid, and she's still standing. She's not some weak mother figure who needs constant protecting—she's smart, she's capable, and she's Bei Qinghuan's biggest ally. Meanwhile, the Qin family is this toxic mess. Qin Zhenghua is this petty, insecure guy who can't even maintain eye contact. He's two years older than Bei Qinghuan but she literally suppressed him since childhood. The fact that he throws a tantrum and runs out when she mentions Tao Su shows how fragile his ego is. And Mei Suqin—oh her inner thoughts are pure venom. Calling Bei Qinghuan's family 'lowly wretches' who 'only deserve to be slept with for free' while simultaneously trying to manipulate her into taking a job? The hypocrisy is staggering. But the real standout relationship moment is at the very end when that mysterious voice asks 'For me?' right as Bei Qinghuan is eavesdropping. Who is this person? The tension is unreal.
Okay so let me just say this out loud: Qing Yanshen is genuinely one of the most quietly devastating male leads I've read in a while, and it's not even close. Here's a guy who lost his memory, doesn't know who his wife is, doesn't know his daughter, and yet—without any grand speeches or dramatic declarations—he just... starts showing up. Every single day. He buys fruit. He washes dishes in a tiny pink apron. He hammers together a wooden table from scrap boards at midnight because she said she didn't want him spending money. That's not romance-novel behavior, that's just a good human being. What hits me hardest is how he reads her. When she asks him about recovering his memory, he doesn't give the surface-level answer. He hears what she's really asking—don't you want to remember me?—and he says exactly what she needs to hear. That moment right there? That's a man who may not remember the past but is already learning to love her in the present. And the slippers scene? She bought him slippers for three yuan on discount and he treasured them like they were gold. His coworkers think he's crazy for sleeping in the dorm when he has a wife and kid waiting for him, but the truth is he's just... afraid of messing this up. He's walking on eggshells around a woman he's supposed to have known for years and he doesn't even know how they used to talk to each other. I keep thinking about Wang Ge's chat history—"Wife, please I want to go home. I was wrong..." and the reply was just "Get lost!" Qing Yanshen saw that and understood something fundamental about marriage that he's never experienced. He's watching other people's relationships as a blueprint while trying to build his own from scratch. How many men actually know how to be a husband without having been taught? Qing Yanshen is figuring it out in real time and honestly I respect him so much. Will Jiang Qingmi ever let him all the way in though, or is she going to keep that emotional distance as her armor?
Looks like author redid the 2nd chapter, and to be honest. I am liking this variation more than the original. I like showing love to new writers and this seems to be pretty good so far. 1 mistake new writers on here make is going at way too fast paced and before they know it, their MC is WAY too OP and they run out of ideas creating a dead book. Keep it slow paced and you will have a good run.Looking forward to the next chapter!
