Let me trace it: Chapter 40 opens with Su Qing's reputation spreading through the county like wildfire—Old Liu can't keep his mouth shut, Li Defa drives two hours on bumpy mountain roads, and within minutes we're watching her perform what is basically a miracle with seven needles. Ten minutes of treatment, old woman opens her eyes after half a month of silence, Li Defa drops to his knees. Boom. Done. She's established as someone extraordinary. Then—immediately—she's already calculating her next move. Li Defa owes her. The cooperative controls everything. First ally secured. She doesn't even pause to breathe before pivoting to the next threat. Lin Wanqing's letter goes to the capital that same night. Cut to the Lu family residence. Lin Wanqing swirling tea, cool smile, books a ticket to the northwest. The chapter ends and I'm already turning pages. Chapter 41 hits with the snow arrival, the face-to-face meeting in the yard, and Su Qing's devastating three-sentence takedown of Lin Wanqing's entire premise. Then the midnight window scene. The scarf. The line. And Chapter 42 starts with Lin Wanqing NOT leaving, checking into the guest house, parading around, building the rumor mill for three full days before striking. The author could have resolved this immediately—Su Qing could have just ignored her and moved on—but no. She lets the tension simmer, lets the whole compound hear about the capital heiress, lets everyone set the trap at the clinic. The pacing here is masterful because every chapter ends on a note that demands the next one. There's no filler. No breathing room. Just escalation after escalation after escalation.
