Chen Zai, also referred to as Dr. Chen, is Xiao Man's biological father. He is a writer who rose to fame three years after the original host married him. He had a previous marriage with an ex-wife and a son from that marriage. When his ex-wife returned to the country, he and his son abandoned Xiao Man's mother, running back to the ex-wife. Xiao Man's mother died in grievance, and before her death, she revealed to Chen Zai that Xiao Man was his child. Chen Zai later became a renowned cardiac surgeon, professor, and one of the youngest academicians of the Academy of Engineering, admired and respected by all. His reputation was ruined when the public realized he was the abandoning father depicted in his son's autobiographical film. He searched for Xiao Man for most of his life without ever finding him.
