This is a straight up what's next type of story. You follow the main character throughout his trials and tribulations. UH has many genres in the story so there's a little bit of everything in this tale. So enjoy this book with all it's twists.

I need to talk about Guan Ziyuan because this kid is the most underrated character in this entire novel and I am FURIOUS about it. Here's this twelve-year-old boy who has never had new clothes, who has been gathering pig grass and firewood his whole life, and when Xiyue offers him food and clothes and the chance to STUDY—he refuses the clothes first. He says 'you don't need to buy things for us, save your money.' Do you understand what kind of child does that? He's been conditioned by poverty to believe he doesn't deserve things. And then when Xiyue tests him and he memorizes the Three Character Classic in fifteen minutes, the narrator literally says this child's talent is 'wasted in this small village.' WASTED. I wanted to scream. But the most heartbreaking moment is when he asks if she knows the classic and she lies and says she heard Young Master Zhou recite it, and he responds with 'if you were a boy, you'd have passed the local exams.' That line hit me like a truck. He's so hungry for knowledge that he's projecting it onto her. And then when she offers to pay for his education, his eyes light up and then dim immediately because he knows how much this family struggles. He doesn't dare hope. That's not a child's reaction—that's a child who's been disappointed too many times. Meanwhile, Mrs. Zhang saving two buns for her husband and handing the rest to the elders instead of eating them herself? That's the tragedy of this whole family. They're not evil, they're just trapped. And Xiyue is the only one who figured out how to pick at the bars.
Horrible, story started great but now the author is not updating as needed, the chapters are short, multiple chapters to go over the same timeframe, and it will cost you HUNDREDS to read this book. Don’t do it.
