Really good novel.Its extremely different from the usual cliched novels which have same repeating plots. If I had to compare it to some novel, it would be Lord of The Mysteries and My House of Horror. MC is not a 'Hero' prototype but a realistic person who has slight (just a little bit)antihero qualities.Just give it a go. I had no expectations from the synopsis and cover but still Its a unique piece of work which just sucks you into its universe.

But the narration hints he knew. The subtext is huge. Their conversations are like a chess match. Zhao Ran stays calm, but her words are loaded. Yang Jianjun, on the other hand, is defensive, evasive, trying to maintain control. The author gives each character a clear voice through dialogue. Zhao Ran's lines are short, punchy, often ending with a question that leaves him exposed. Yang Jianjun's are longer, more explanatory, trying to justify himself. There's also the neighbor scene—Grandma Sun's practicality, the kids' fear. All natural, no exposition. The tone balances darkness with dry humor. Like when Zhao Ran hands over thirty yuan to Grandma Sun and says, "I don't trust my mother-in-law, and as for Jianjun, I can't rely on him." That's not just plot; it's character. It shows her assessing alliances, planning ahead. The dialogue doesn't just move the plot; it reveals psychology. I love how Zhao Ran's voice evolves from the original host's passive acceptance to her own assertive clarity. It's satisfying to hear her speak without apology.
