Hahaha no more shittty machine to for me Hahaha.
First off, despite the rating this is not by any means a bad story, it has issues but it has qualities of redemption.
Firstly the writing quality, I understand English is not everyone's first language but this book screams machine translation. Poor grammar, misspelt words that sound the same vocally abound. Quite frankly I got through half the released chapters (37 actual, 4 Q & As) and was gonna drop it on how badly the engrish became. Honestly author including the abbreviations and the full word in several places shows a distinct lack of proof reading.
Story Development, decent if rushed. Typical zombie apocalypse yet there is literally tons of unanswered questions on how John spreads the virus worldwide from one hick town.
Character Design, I literally dislike everyone. John, Dixie, Alexia, Alice, James, Candice... all prime characters who lack any relatable or endearing quality. John starts off as a tragic hero MC but soon goes full angst evil bitch.
Updating Stability, from what I've seen updates happen, my biggest issue is wasting chapters on question and answer sections, seriously webnovel books have a specific chapter setting for this sort of thing that does not require breaking up the story or having 41 chapters but the latest title being chapter 37. LEARN TO USE THE SITE AUTHOR
World Background... nothing is explained. Yes its the world we live in but everything is just FBI this, police that. The zombie general attacks the white house which seems to lack any defenses just so the author can massacre president "Grump". Alot is glossed over to force plot.
In closing, the book isn't bad. The premise starts off great... its just i feel someone coated the sled bottom in no stick spray before rushing down the hill, the speed is going at break neck pace with no ability to enjoy the ride. When it stops it won't be to a kid laughing in wild fun, it'll be to tears on a good premise rushed and squandered.

this is just that good a novel. The story building is awesome.the genre may be the same but the story creativity takes it to another level. well 4 me anyways
Read first 40 chapters in 2.5hrs and not 60 as I ain't paying or using any resources for this trash. Another at best mediocre if not worse novel coming from Mad Snail. Read only if you refuse to use your brain and only speed read through chapters as if drinking water. MC is nearly as annoying in some way like Grid from Overgeared during the the first 100 chapters of it but has lesser character-wise quality. Not because Xiao Ling is scummy but he's literally almost braindead then out of nowhere he's this expert veteran kind of ****, nice character development mate.
He's suddenly a chad alpha solo player, I get that he can become op but for him to be a smart@ss out of nowhere does not make sense. This is considering that the idiot has been stucked at level 1 and is poor af for more than 1 month since he played the game. If you're in such a position like that especially in a MMORPG, by the standards of gaming, you are by the definition of a scrub, not even a noob, a noob/newbie is someone new but a scrub/idiot is just inherently bad. Also, the fvcker is literally one of luckiest if not the luckiest beta MC for a game/vrmmorpg genre novel. He gets good **** like it's raining money and he didn't do even anything besides walking in a NPC building or randomly mining just so he gets a unique quest or unidentified op item. Not a single bit of struggle or a flow of events beforehand to make the situation acceptable.
Either that's just the way it is supposed to be or my preconceived thoughts is shrouding me from liking this, knowing this MC will most likely not change much in terms of character development nor story-wise unlike Grid did. The game itself like the world or story is just thoughtless, by far one of the lowest quality gaming novel made up and that says a lot as most other game novels if not all of them are mediocre already and this one is worst than the existing or past ones. The fights are written soulless, they're so bad you don't even pay attention and just want to get it over with as it's that bland. That segment between the berserk warrior and 3 invading opposing faction was a snooze-fest as well as his random fights with scarlet minions. Fights by Xiao Ling literally goes like this, see enemy spam skills from 3 classes, enemy close to me? Use force push skill then rinse repeat. Not a single sense of thought in fighting, not even planning to chain skills or ****. Also it looks like there is no chanting for spells from the way XL fights? Only CD. Well GG melees late game, dumb game dumb author. World building is literally rated 1 star if none really. From the way it looks like, the MC has only been in 2 towns in a span of 40 chapters and it looks like it'll be the case until 70/80Ch. There has been no Real Life showing as well.
Who am I kidding, this novel will most likely be dropped if not continued in a speed of a snail update like Tales of Demons and Gods. This novel is fine to read if you've read almost everything out there and has digested piles of trash novels and just want a quick brain stimulus to check whether your brain still works and can eat more trash as you've gone numb long before already.

I don't think this novel deserves 5 stars, but I'm giving it that because people are being childish and giving the novel 1 star because they don't like the MC not being evil or not being smart(Yeah I'm also being childish, ironic isn't it?). It's always the same old crap when a non-human protagonist isn't absolute evil. Anyway..
The plot is really forced, and the power scaling is kinda rushed. Immediate power ups in the first few chapters, the kind of power ups that would take like 60 chapters or so for the average xianxia protagonist to get. I can tell by this that either the story won't last long or the author will have to add a lot of bs to have more chapters.
The protagonist is pretty naive as well, and stupid sometimes. I don't really care about this, I even like it a bit, but a lot of readers dislike dumb protagonists. Oh, his moral compass is also pretty good, which the author takes advantage of so he can start crappy troupes like helping random beautiful girls in danger. The world building is nice, I found the world he is staying a little interesting, although it isn't that original.
Anyways, if you came here expecting some Vampire Lord stuff with the MC growing stronger and raising a army of vampires so he can take over the world, this novel really isn't it. It has the same old cliches Chinese novels have, the plot is forced, the power ups are rushed, at least in the start.
I don't think this novel will ever be chosen since it has nearly everything mainstream readers here dislike, but I still found it somewhat interesting. It's nice to pass time, unless you are one of those guys who really hate goody-two shoes protagonist and JP novels. Then you will deeply dislike this novel, you probably won't get past chapter 20.
Like it.. One of the novel here that i enjoyed reading. Not those novels where you can't stop reading once you starts but its pretty close, especially if you loved kingdom building. Overall above average i just rate it higher for now coz i know for myself what i enjoyed and want to share it to others..

Excellent start to what appears to be a very good story. Hopefully the author will continue updating and make this an excellent novel or series.
The writing is good, some miner problem with word usage and spelling. The story is compelling and catches you up in it even though currently there are only 5 chapters.
MC is a veteran, apparently some type of special operations trooper, who has been wounded and medically retired. He has adopted the neighborhood that he lives in and appears to be seen as the "big brother" of the rough area.
Please Author-san, give us more....
Lovely story. The mystery in it makes the story really interesting. Your character formation and use of words is good. I honestly can't wait to see how it ends, Wonderful job, well done.
