great story
The plot structure here is deceptively simple. Qin Ziheng washes up in this world, sick and disoriented. Mao Xiaoshu finds him, brings him water, tries to care for him. That's the inciting incident — but it's not dramatic, it's almost accidental. A boy running with a pot of water, sloshing it everywhere, too hurried to notice he's soaking his own clothes. What's clever is how the author builds the narrative through domestic moments rather than epic events. Gathering firewood. Cooking meat soup. Cutting grass for winter. These are tiny actions but they carry the entire emotional weight of the story. The plot doesn't need battles or betrayals here — it needs a fire to be lit, a pot to be filled, a stone bed to be warmed. There's a subtle arc in how Qin Ziheng's perception shifts. At first he observes Mao Xiaoshu with amusement — "one could even say never" had he dealt with someone so simple. But by the end, he's seeing his own childhood reflected in this boy. The narrative moves from observation to identification, and that's where the real story begins. The meat soup scene is the turning point: Qin Ziheng lies about not being hungry so Mao Xiaoshu will eat. He stops being a guest and starts being a caretaker. The relationship has shifted from savior-saved to something more equal, more mutual. And with the snow season approaching, the plot is setting up a real test — can these two people who've never survived alone learn to survive together?
I really am enjoying the story. I would like to see it polished and properly published. I this it costs way too many coins though. the starting chapters were only like 10 coins which I found reasonable but after a couple of chapters it jumped up and every chapter after has been between 35 and 60...
how many more chapters to go in this book
Interesting.
This is a great series, can't wait for the next book. The author pulls you into each story. I'm glad Gavin got his mate.
