The pacing in these chapters is absolutely ruthless and I'm here for it. Let me walk through how the author builds tension here because it's a masterclass. We start with Chu Weiwei's scene—she's pitching to Song Guantang, trying to use their childhood connection as leverage. It's slow, it's tense, it's this quiet power play. And then Song Guantang checks his watch and basically tells her to get lost. Boom. Scene over. The author doesn't waste a single word. Then we cut to Meng Tang's dinner party. The 1982 Lafite arrives and suddenly the whole atmosphere shifts. The wine becomes this ticking time bomb—will she drink it? Will she get in trouble? What if someone finds out? And then she turns it around so smoothly, turning a potential disaster into a business win. Manager Sun is out cold, the investment is secured, and she's stumbling toward the restroom feeling victorious. And then—WHAM. Cheng Youjun grabs her. The pacing goes from smooth and controlled to chaotic and dangerous in literally one paragraph. The author doesn't warn you. One moment Meng Tang is celebrating her win, the next she's being dragged by her wrist by a man who thinks he owns her. The confrontation escalates so fast. He's yelling, she's trying to push him away, she's vomiting on him—and then Song Guantang appears. The transition from the messy, ugly confrontation to the almost surreal moment of him carrying her away is jarring in the best way. It's like the universe itself decided this scene needed a plot twist. And the chapter ends with Chu Weiwei speculating about their relationship and Assistant Zhou handing out hush money. The author leaves us with all these loose threads—what is their actual relationship? What will Chu Weiwei do with this information? What happens to Cheng Youjun?—and then cuts to the next chapter like nothing happened. The rhythm here is: quiet tension → controlled victory → sudden danger → explosive rescue → aftermath with lingering questions. It's like a rollercoaster and I was not prepared for how much I wanted to ride it again.
"Why don't you take a look in the mirror and see what kind of ghost you look like right now?" I am not okay. I repeat: I am NOT okay. This man is the most infuriating, contradictory, emotionally constipated character I have ever encountered in a novel, and I cannot stop thinking about him. Let's talk about what he actually did in these chapters. He brings a ghost into his office. He watches brain-dead idol dramas with her. He tells his assistant to prepare for a meeting while simultaneously eavesdropping on a grieving man outside. He calls Cheng Yong'an to hurry up with burning... something... and then immediately regrets being loud around Wen Yue because she looks at him with "complicated and fearful gaze" and he internally curses at himself. This man is a walking contradiction. He pretends not to care—"I'm not interested in you ghosts anyway"—but he literally took her to see Gong Chen. He says she looks like a frog, but he's watching her reflection in the elevator doors and thinking she's cute. He claims he has too much time on his hands, yet he's clearly invested in everything that happens to her. And the Wen Yue dynamic? She's simultaneously terrified of him and completely unfiltered around him. She sticks her tongue out at his back. She calls him annoying. She's genuinely scared he'll drive her away. But she also keeps testing him—"Little Uncle, are you jealous?"—like she's probing for something she desperately wants to believe. Meanwhile Gong Chen is kneeling in the rain like a tragic romance novel protagonist, and Wen Yue's reaction is... complicated. She acknowledges he cried "quite pitifully" but also says "he deserved it" because he didn't love her this much when she was alive. Ouch. That line hit me like a truck. What does this mean for where their relationship is going? Because I can tell Gong Hengye is going to be the one who actually shows up for her, and that's going to make everything so much messier.
I want to talk about pacing because these chapters are a masterclass in controlling reader engagement. Let me break down the structure. Chapter 14 opens with Xiao Yu in turmoil—pacing, restless, questioning. The author immediately puts us in his headspace. We feel his agitation because we feel it through the prose. Short sentences. Fragments. 'Every inconsistency. Every unanswered question.' The rhythm itself mirrors his racing thoughts. Then the pendant scene. The click of the hidden compartment. The slow reveal of the jade. This is where the pacing shifts—it becomes deliberate, almost ceremonial. The author slows everything down. 'His hands trembled as he slowly picked it up.' 'With almost reverent care, fitted the two halves together.' The prose itself becomes careful, reverent. We're meant to feel the weight of this moment. And then—immediately after the emotional peak of the pendant reveal—the author cuts to night. Torches. Training yard. Xie Yan sword practicing. A completely different scene, a completely different energy. This is what I love: the author doesn't let us sit in the emotion too long. Just when we're drowning in Xiao Yu's guilt and heartache, we get a hard cut to a new scene with new tension. The sparring scene is where the pacing really shines. It starts almost casually—Xie Yan inviting the 'Crown Prince' to spar. But the author layers in suspicion gradually. 'After a dozen exchanges… his brows gradually knit together.' Not all at once. Gradually. Like we're watching a detective piece things together in real time. Then the fan whistle. Clang. Shen Yi appears. The pacing accelerates—shorter sentences, sharper dialogue, the torches flaring, soldiers surging from every direction. The scene goes from a quiet sparring match to a full confrontation in the span of a few paragraphs. And the final line—'You're A-Li?'—is a perfect cliffhanger. The author doesn't resolve anything. Just stops. Leaves us hanging. What I appreciate most: the author knows when to slow down (the pendant scene) and when to accelerate (the confrontation). The transitions between scenes feel natural, not jarring. And the chapter breaks land at moments that make you immediately want to keep reading. This isn't accidental—it's craft.

A medieval fantasy isekai story? That's boring...But dual transmigrator from different background as protagonists? That's something new and unique!I'm curious about where this story will lead to
Wish I had more chapters to read..the story is quite good
Shameless rating from author but sue me!! This review contains some spoilers, but I hope it’ll help your reading experience! This book is a historical fantasy romance, it takes place in medieval times, and it is based off of the legendary tale of King Arthur! The book also contains Greek mythology, Hinduism, and other mixes of cultures/mythology/religion—this book has Gods/Goddesses, magical/fantasy elements, and demi-god/nisf daw elements. To inform you further, nisf daw are half human, half god beings chosen by the Gods as their “successors” (more is revealed in the book so I won’t spoil to much). There will be a lot of Arabic and Greek language intertwined within the book :)! Please also note, this is a historical romance story, but the romance IS a slow burn, as the ML and MC go through different trials together and fall in love!! This is also an action based story, so there is minor gore such a blood etc, however it is pretty tamed, as this is a action/adventure story for all ages! There is also a warning of minor cursing (two of my characters especially LOL) as well, so if that isn’t your thing, that’s so okay, but I wanted to give a warning! If you desire a well-written novel with a creative premise, fun characters, action-packed scenes, and tooth-rooting romance, then please, indulge in Bum To Lady! Thank you so much ☺️!
i love this book, never had a chance to read the hardcopy please finish it up cos I'm hooked ??
