Unlike some people who don't even bother with proper formal customs and just drag someone straight into the bedroom!' I literally screamed. The audacity. The speed. The fact that she delivers this while everyone is standing under a scholar tree in broad daylight. And then she follows up with 'No matter how poor our Xiao family is, we won't wrong our new daughter-in-law!' Like, ma'am, you just dropped two bombs in three sentences and you're not even winded. Meanwhile Su Lan's dialogue is all these careful, calculated trails-offs. 'Sister A-He, it's not that I want to lecture you, but...' and 'Actually... I didn't expect the Xiao family to host a banquet for A-He either.' She's always hedging, always wrapping her jealousy in concern. And Liu Cuihua! 'Bah! It's just catching a rabbit and digging up some wild weeds!' That's not dismissal, that's pure sour grapes. The author gives each character such a distinct voice. Xiao Yue's lines are all exclamation marks and genuine excitement. Su He's calm and measured, never rising to provocation. Even the villagers have different voices - some are envious, some are genuinely admiring, some are just gossiping. The dialogue drives this whole scene forward without any narration needed.
