'I am married.' Four words. That's it. That's the most devastating line of dialogue in this entire section, and it completely recontextualizes everything that came before it. Sheng Lianjue doesn't explain. He doesn't apologize. He just states it as fact, like he's announcing the weather. And Lady Huide's response—'I'm very curious about which family's daughter managed to win you over'—is perfect because it reveals everything about the social world these characters inhabit. Marriage as conquest. Women as trophies. Love as something that must be 'won.' But the real dialogue genius is what's NOT said. Jiang Wan pulling the IV from her own hand. The password error. The way Gao Yuan hesitates for three seconds before saying 'Nothing' about what she said. These silences are louder than any monologue. Jiang Wan's voice when she's weak is barely there—'No need. I don't plan to stay in the capital. I want to return to Wuchuan.' Three sentences that carry an entire lifetime of resignation. She's not asking for permission. She's announcing her departure like a death sentence. And Sheng Lianjue's internal monologue? The memory of her voice saying 'Hold me, please? It's thundering, I'm scared'—that's the ghost of a conversation they had before everything went wrong. The author uses that flashback dialogue to show us what was lost, what could have been, what still might be if either of them knew how to ask. The dialogue throughout feels natural because nobody is performing for the reader. They're performing for each other, and the gap between performance and truth is where the story lives.
Omg it could have been a good story but English is definitely not author first language .The translation had so many grammatical errors and I couldn’t even understand it oh my gosh don’t pay any money for the store unless you wanna have a headache
