Ohhh its interesting, uwu?
am happy for the two best friend
My heart is breaking
So glad they have the listening option.
I've been thinking about this dinner scene and I can't get it out of my head. They sit across from each other at the dining table, there's a noticeable distance between them, and the author writes: "the atmosphere felt utterly different... heavy with some vague, intangible, clinging tension." Vague. Intangible. Clinging. Those three words in a row are doing so much work. Because what's actually happening here is two people who just saw each other completely naked an hour ago, who both felt something in that moment, who both chose not to address it, and who are now sitting in a house that feels suddenly too small and too quiet. Wen Zhiyu breaks the silence first—of course she does, she's always the one holding the relationship together—but even her question is careful, polite, distant. "Mr. Pei... I thought you wouldn't be back until tomorrow?" She calls him Mr. Pei. After all this tension, after seeing each other like that, she still can't just say his name. And Pei Yan's answer is a lie about the food. He could have told her the truth—that he came back because something in him needed to be home, needed to see her, needed to... I don't even know what. The emotional restraint here is absolutely suffocating in the best way. These two are so close to something real and they're both too afraid or too disciplined to reach for it. And that's what makes my heart ache.
