Everything up until Wang Guifen appears is warm and soft. Moonlight, neighborly vegetables, a date to a cooperative wine-making event. Meng Ying is dressed up in her white shirt and bell-bottoms, looking 'bright and fashionable.' Life is good. Life is peaceful. And then: 'Just as they tried to squeeze their way in, they spotted Wang Guifen, who was munching on sunflower seeds.' That's it. That's the paragraph. No dramatic entrance, no villain monologue. Just this woman existing at the entrance of the cooperative like a predator waiting for the herd to gather. The sunflower seeds detail is chilling — it's such a mundane, casual action that makes it feel even more threatening. She's not rushing, she's not hiding. She's just... there. Knowing they'll come. The stakes just shifted from 'will these two figure out their feelings' to 'what is Wang Guifen planning and how does it affect this fragile new peace?' I immediately flipped ahead to see what happens next. The author didn't need to raise the volume — just a single image of someone eating seeds at a doorway was enough to make my stomach drop.
Lu Chengjing. Wow. Just... wow. The author introduces him while Lin Shuyao is half-conscious in a hospital bed, and the description hits like a physical blow: 'deep, sharp contours as if carved by knife and axe.' This man looks like he was sculpted from the same harsh plateau he lives on. And the contrast with Chen Zhiheng? Chef's kiss. Chen Zhiheng is described as 'refined in appearance and well-spoken'—the kind of guy who smiles while stealing your life's work. Lu Chengjing? He doesn't smile at all. He's gruff, direct, and clearly confused by Lin Shuyao's sudden change of heart. The fact that he rushed to the hospital immediately after getting her call—despite having just received a dozen letters demanding divorce—says something about his character that the text never explicitly states. He's not a nice guy on the surface, but he's not fake either. The most revealing moment for me was Lin Shuyao's internal monologue when she sees him: 'He was far too handsome!' And then immediately feeling uncomfortable because he's a stranger. This is a woman who was manipulated into abandoning her marriage for a pretty face, and now that she's actually looking at her real husband, she's flustered by his attractiveness. The irony is delicious. She spent two years rejecting a man who barely existed in her mind, only to realize too late that the 'brute' her mother warned her about is actually... decent? Stable? Possibly the only person in this story who wouldn't exploit her? Their dynamic right now is pure awkward tension. She's performing sincerity she doesn't fully feel yet. He's skeptical but clearly intrigued. And the divorce papers sitting on his bedside table like a ghost of their past are the perfect symbol of everything that went wrong between them before they even really began.
Looks like an interesting start to a great novel! I'm looking forward to see where it goes - the scene is beautifully set, and the world is incredible!
I've only read the first two chapters and I must say this is quite unique. I'm a fan of a regression/reincarnation/restart novel and it gets to a point when plot becomes redundant, but this one is something I've never encountered before. While the MC reincarnated into the body of a possible serial killer, this is not glorifying their acts, it's quite the contrary.
Definitely a character-driven drama. The relationships unfold hard and fast, and the pacing keeps it all going. The characters are the strongest suit in Wounded_Warrior's hands, and while I haven't been willing to start on the paid chapters, I'm definitely keeping this in my library for future reading.

Nice book though, and I’m expecting the updated todays chapter, I believe the author has more plan for the book and character development, also the book had started with more of action which is compatible for a war scenario. Good job Mr author
