Okay, I need to talk about Grandmother Xia because this woman is genuinely terrifying and I cannot stop thinking about her. The original host loved her. Loved her. And Xia Chang'an just chips in 'toad on the road, causing trouble and showing off' and the old lady just deflates. But underneath the humor, it's genuinely chilling how the original host was deceived by her own grandmother. Sugar-coated bullets. Sweet-talking flattery. Agreed to help find jobs for her cousins because Grandma persuaded her, and now that the engagement is off, that old lady would probably want to strangle her precious obedient granddaughter. And Teng Fei—ugh. I only wanted to check it out because of the title and cover but it surprisingly isn't bad orcliche at all. The book has a great potential but it's still pretty early to judge.
