So I have been reading a few stories here on good novel and nothing compares to this book. If I could i would give this book 100 stars. I cant wait to get to book 2.

This is really something worth reading. Wow!
The pacing in these chapters is doing some serious double duty. We start with the mountain outing—gentle, almost idyllic family time, the kind of scene that makes you want to slow down and savor it. Then we cut to the family returning home and the money reveal, which is a nice payoff. The Wang Erzhu backstory about saving Steward Li is dropped in casually but it's actually crucial worldbuilding. And then—BAM—the Zhang family subplot hits like a truck. One minute we're celebrating two taels of silver, the next we're watching a manipulative mother-in-law and sister-in-law scheme to drain their daughter's resources. The chapter ends with Zhang Eldest arriving at the Wang household at dawn, looking around the yard like a vulture, and the family's expressions darkening. That transition from warmth to tension is seamless. The author doesn't let us breathe between the high of the rabbit sale and the low of the family drama. It's like emotional whiplash and I can't look away.
