I love the story of Catherine and Tyler.. In one of the epilogues of Cassandra's book, I know she will have difficulty finding her true love. but the heartbreaking chapters give me all the emotions I have. And now this side story of Joshua and Alice.... I didn't expect that i will love their story.

I'm not okay with how good Emma is at taking care of herself. Like, the author drops these details casually and they hit different. Emma wiping her mouth with a tissue instead of her sleeve because Jolene corrected her once. Emma offering to wash the dishes after her second plate. Emma lying about being full so she doesn't burden her new mom. This kid has developed survival instincts that are equal parts heartbreaking and impressive. And Jolene? She's a first-time mom who raised a golden retriever and a cat in her past life. She has no idea what she's doing. But watch how she adapts. She doesn't scold Emma for eating noisily—she feeds her. She doesn't pretend she knows everything about parenting—she just shows up and tries. The moment that got me was when Emma asks 'Mom, when are we going to buy books?' and Jolene actually answers honestly instead of brushing it off. That's trust being built in real time, one small conversation at a time. Then there's Ben, who's this whole other ball of tension. He's five, he's been abandoned by nannies, and he's sitting outside alone refusing to eat because he's waiting for a brother who never comes home on time. The fact that he finally speaks up and demands food like it's some kind of power move? Chef's kiss. These two kids are a matched set of wounded but resilient, and Jolene is somehow the glue holding them together while having no idea how to be a mom. I need to know what happens next.
