I need to talk about Li Xuemei because this character is not what you expect. On the surface she's the classic reborn villainess—jealous, scheming, trying to steal someone else's life. But the text gives us this incredible glimpse into her psychology: "In her previous life, two months later, Xu Yanqing's family and Lu Zhenzhen returned to Hushi, where they soared to success and became the city's wealthiest family." She's not just petty, she's traumatized by her own future. She knows how this ends and she's desperately trying to rewrite it. That makes her genuinely scary because her motivation isn't random malice—it's survival. And the most disturbing part? She actually feels sorry for Lu Zhenzhen when she hands over the money. "I hope you won't come to our house again from now on~~" That tilde at the end is so performative, so fake-sweet, and yet there's a flicker of something real underneath it. She's trapped in this cycle too. Meanwhile Lu Zhenzhen's relationship with the Gu family is just... complicated. Mother Gu is soft, hesitant, rubbing her hands like she doesn't know how to interact with this daughter-in-law who's never properly eaten a meal in their home. And Third Aunt? Straight-up hostile. "Our Gu family must have had the worst luck for eight lifetimes to end up with such a shameless slut." The family dynamics here are a minefield and I'm obsessed with watching how Lu Zhenzhen navigates all of it.
