"Thank you," I said briefly before heading towards the elevator.
Can we talk about the tray for a second? Because that detail—Yao Chengcheng nearly dropping the tray in her hands—is the most human thing in this entire scene and it completely got me. She's not a noblewoman being elevated to a position of power. She's someone holding a tray, doing whatever task she was doing, and suddenly her entire world shifts. There's something so vulnerable about that image. The tray represents her ordinary life, her current role, and the fact that it nearly slips from her hands shows how unprepared she is for whatever is about to happen. I keep thinking about the emotional whiplash here. One moment she's just... existing. The next, she's being called Madam in front of the Prince's maids. Where's the romance in this? Well, honestly, the romantic tension isn't in a love confession or a tender moment—it's in the power imbalance, the mystery, the fact that the Prince has been WAITING for her. That word "waiting" hits different. He's been anticipating this moment. And she has no idea. There's this ache in knowing something the character doesn't, and also this protectiveness over her because she looks so lost in that room. I'm already emotionally invested and we haven't even seen the Prince yet.
"I don't think so!" said a voice. It was the woodcutter. He walked back into the clearing, carrying his axe. "This little boy won fair and square. Now hand over Spike or I will chop your broomstick in half."
'No,' she answered, heaving a sigh, quite relieved that Don had changed the direction of his questions. Don glanced back briefly as he heard the door open, it was Stainless going out to attend to a phone call. 'We were three working with her and became two when we lost Benny,' Aisha quickly added.
