"Shen Jin, oh my! He transformed into such a delightful child, although not the main focus, he stole the show with his character development and personal charm. Initially, I found his presence annoying, then tolerated, eventually grew to enjoy, and now, reading about him is the highlight of the book. I'd love to see his story continue as a standalone sequel, just hoping he remains happy and healthy. As for the plot twist involving cannibalism, it was a scary moment for me, a fear I almost couldn't overcome, but I'm glad I persevered to witness Shen Jin's growth.
The female lead (FL) and male lead (ML) are decent characters with likable personalities. The FL didn't undergo much development due to her age in her previous life, which seems intentional. The ML is a genuinely nice person, surprising considering his background in war and adversity. It would've been interesting to delve deeper into his character, exploring how he coped with his trauma, but alas, that's not part of the narrative.
This book leans more towards a slice-of-life tale with minimal romance, but the relatable everyday life aspects made it an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it."
The essence of this narrative lies in the lingering despair after a broken heart, a sentiment共鸣 for those who have experienced historical trauma. The protagonist is astute, yet her imperfections stem from the scars left by abuse—undeniably authentic. One harrowing aspect of domestic violence (or any form of group abuse) is its capacity to isolate victims and strip them of understanding what a healthy life looks like.
It's disheartening to see the project seemingly abandoned, but I fervently hope it finds renewed interest and support.
I initially had some concerns when the discussion delved into the roots of Korean and Japanese, but I was glad to see that the author acknowledges their inherent differences and rules out any connection to the Sino-Japanese language family. The reason for their shared linguistic features and vocabulary is rooted in historical context – scholars from both nations once viewed Chinese as a more scholarly or prestigious language, hence the extensive borrowing of words, much like what's currently happening with English. So far, I've been quite impressed, despite my initial hesitation due to the reincarnated otaku character arc, which turned out to be well-executed.
"Typical reincarnation, body swap tale with an added dash of intrigue. I shed quite a few tears while reading some of the extra chapters. Fang Yan was a villain through and through; I couldn't help despising that wasteful, useless existence. He certainly had it coming."
Until chapter 59, the storytelling is straightforward and enjoyable. It lacks intricate emotional subplots, but the narrative flows smoothly. No complex hidden plot seems to be present thus far, and any issues that arise are generally resolved promptly. The translation is commendable. As someone who appreciates slimes, this adds an extra appeal. If you're looking for a low-key, relaxing read, this is a solid choice.
"My Ruthless Assassin" is a captivating novel that delves into the intricate world of revenge, loyalty, and the blurred lines between good and evil. At its core, the story revolves around the protagonist, a highly skilled assassin driven by personal loss, as they navigate a treacherous landscape of power, deception, and the pursuit of justice or redemption.
The author masterfully crafts a narrative that explores the human condition – the capacity for both darkness and resilience within us. As the assassin's past catches up with them, readers are drawn into a psychological journey, witnessing the struggle between their ruthless nature and the possibility of empathy and forgiveness. The novel's compelling characters, both major and minor, are multi-dimensional, allowing readers to question their own moral compass and the consequences of one's actions.
What sets "My Ruthless Assassin" apart is its exploration of themes like morality, identity, and the thin line between right and wrong. It forces readers to confront their own beliefs, while simultaneously delivering thrilling action sequences that keep the pages turning. Ultimately, the novel leaves a lasting impression as it asks: can a heart hardened by仇恨 ever find redemption, or is it doomed to remain trapped in a cycle of violence?
In a human tone, "My Ruthless Assassin" is a gripping tale that invites introspection, reminding us that even in the darkest of circumstances, there may be room for growth and transformation. It's a poignant reminder that beneath the cloak of an assassin lies a complex, flawed human being, searching for meaning in a world that seeks to define them by their chosen profession.
