I'm not even going to pretend I'm not obsessed with this five-year-old. Xin Xin has more emotional intelligence than half the adults in this book and I am here for it. Let's look at her dialogue, because it's genuinely remarkable for a child character: "Mommy, why did you lie? Didn't you say lying isn't what good children do? If Mommy lies, then you're not a good adult." She just dismantled her mother's entire moral framework in one sentence and she's FIVE. And the best part? Wen Yao's response isn't to scold her—it's to feel helpless. Having a smart daughter is apparently a trouble too, as the narration notes. Then there's the scene where she asks to video call her daddy and when Wen Yao says no, Xin Xin doesn't throw a tantrum. She just says, "Why are other daddies not busy?" and then accepts the answer with this heartbreaking quietness. She believed her mother. She just... believed her. Compare that to the adult dialogue, which is mostly subtext and avoidance. Xing Yu and Wen Yao can't even say each other's real names without it being a loaded moment. When he asks "I still don't know your name" and she gives him the homophone version—Wen as in temperature, Yao as in jade—that's dialogue doing triple duty: it's advancing the plot, revealing character, and creating dramatic irony all at once. The author's narrative voice is also doing a lot of work here. It's intimate, always hovering close to Wen Yao's perspective, but it doesn't over-explain. We're given just enough to feel everything without being told how to feel about it.
I need to talk about Gong Chen because this man is a MASTERCLASS in how to be terrible while sounding reasonable. Let me just say - I have never wanted to throw a book at someone so badly. Every line he speaks is designed to make Wen Yue feel guilty for existing. 'You know I only see Xibao as a sister.' 'Can you not make a scene right now?' 'Be good, okay?' He wraps his betrayal in concern, his abandonment in love, his manipulation in family duty. The worst part? He genuinely believes he's the good guy here. And the family dynamics are just... devastating. Her mother calls to check if SHE bought the trending topic about Wen Xi being the other woman, not to ask if Wen Yue is okay. Her father and brother are all at Wen Xi's place. Even her own clarification from Wen Corporation says 'friendly and close' about Gong Chen and Wen Xi - the public is already connecting the dots that the family is deliberately obscuring. But then there's the dream. That man she calls 'Uncle' - Gong Hengye. His voice is described as magnetic, gentle, teasing. He makes her heart flutter. In a story where everyone else treats her like an inconvenience, this dream figure offers warmth and intimacy. I'm not saying it's romantic - I'm saying the contrast is SO sharp it hurts. The person she's supposed to marry treats her like garbage, and a man she's never actually met in waking life makes her feel desired and cherished, even in a dream. The sister relationship is also fascinating. Wen Xi's fear of hospitals stems from Wen Yue pushing her into water years ago. The whole switched-at-birth dynamic means Wen Yue grew up as the 'fake' daughter who had to earn love, while Wen Xi gets it freely. No wonder everyone defaults to Wen Xi - it's not just guilt, it's decades of conditioned preference.
Is this a one man army? Or does he got subordinated and companions?
The characters introduced in the story are all well done. They all have a great personalities and not the copy and paste, vague, 'only there to take up space' personality types. Very good on the authors. The plot is heavily is thought out. Kinda reminding me of Vinland Saga.OMG IM SO STUPID!??? I read this a while back and just now realized I didn't give this a review. I'm sorry author-sama ?????. but please y'all. add this to your reading list. TRUST ME!??

It's a very good novel and for a long time I want to see an author that can blend incantation and juju practice into a novel. Although this novel didn't do much justice to the character the world building is the best I have seen on this site.

I came across this story by chance, and I'm a first time user. Can I just say how glad I am that it is this story that I came to as my first choice? The story gets locked a bit early on, but I'm already hooked onto the characters and their story so I really really want to know how this pans out! I want to see a character development for our fl and watch the ml burn! Please update faster dear author!!
