A supernatural marriage ceremony performed when Xue Jingyao was ten years old to cure her Xiebing illness. The ritual involved red decorations, red clothes worn by Jingyao, a large red rooster, drums, gongs, and suona horns. The Kanshi Xiansheng chanted incantations including Hongyue Zhiye Longwang Quqin and Xuejia marries off a daughter; to betray is to perish. The ritual gave Jingyao a spiritual husband who protects her but also restricts her from having real romantic relationships.
