Xu Hehua's father and Taohua's maternal grandfather. He had not visited since winter until hearing about Taohua becoming Cao Xiu's disciple. He carries a tobacco pipe and was ridiculed after his daughter's divorce but now feels proud because his adopted granddaughter earned him face in the village. He strongly opposed the idea of engaging Taohua to Tiezhu and wanted her to potentially marry into a city family.
