The protagonist, also known as Sixth Young Madam or Wu Niang. She is a widow who married into the Pei family. Originally from a merchant family, she married Pei Liulang (Third Master and Third Madam's son) but he died suppressing bandits before returning. She lives in seclusion in the Third Branch courtyard, disliked by elders and looked down upon due to her merchant background and low status as a gate-watching widow. She is described as extremely beautiful with a face lovely as a peach blossom, powdery complexion and vermilion lips. She is also talented in painting according to Taozhi. She is cautious and self-aware, preferring to avoid crowded times and conflicts, but stands up for herself when pushed too far by Pei Ba Niang.
