The protagonist, wife of A Chou (the Imperial Grandson) and mother of Mang Er. Originally an ordinary daughter from a merchant family who entered the Ning household through male matrilineal marriage. After her husband's revelation as the Imperial Grandson, she gains immense status and respect in Ru City. She is nineteen years old, somewhat naive about imperial politics, and worries about her future position. She is cautious, thoughtful, and tries to maintain good relationships with her in-laws.
