A student of Liu Heshu who spent years gathering evidence to clear his teacher's name. He passed the imperial exam in his forties, ten years older than his teacher. After clearing Liu's name, he was impeached for careless words and demoted to a county magistrate in rural Shaanxi. He is described as a blunt and stubborn man who caused uproar in the Censorate by submitting repeated memorials.
