The local blacksmith and husband of Wang Qiao. He saved his smithing earnings to purchase the child bride for his son. He is described as relatively passive compared to his wife, and after she leaves for work at the Cheng shrine, he feels lighter without her constant nagging. He sends the girl to dig turnips at the village edge and warns her not to run away, mentioning that the last woman who tried was torn apart by wolves outside the village.
