Helen

Helen is Lawrence's young sister who resembled their mother Valerie. She was sometimes treated kindly by the marquis and was well-fed and well-clothed. The marquis sometimes looked at her with affection as if she were his beloved daughter. However, she was still treated as less than human. Lawrence noted that Helen would never become like Valerie, and he viewed her as not a person to the marquis, just like their mother.
