Male, father of Chu Linlang, a merchant. He lost favor with an elder official when Chu Linlang defied him to marry Zhou Sui'an instead of becoming a concubine. He suffered the loss of a salt shipment and had planned to accuse Zhou Sui'an of abducting a respectable woman. Chu Linlang forced his compliance using evidence of her brother's salt tax evasion. He later shifted attitude when Zhou Sui'an succeeded in examinations and repeatedly tried to exploit his daughter's status.
