Can we just take a moment to appreciate how naturally Old Wang speaks? The author has given him this incredible voice — all bowing and scraping on the surface, but every sentence is layered with hidden meaning. 'This old servant must have misremembered…' 'This Spirit-Revealing sphere, it—it's enshrined in the ancestral temple.' The stuttering, the backtracking, the way he invokes ancestors to guilt-trip her into giving it back — it's so vivid I can hear his voice. That's rare. Most authors can't make a minor character sound this alive in just a few pages. And Yu Sangsang's internal voice is a total mood. The way she narrates her own situation with this perfect blend of modern-office-worker sarcasm and cultivation-world wonder is exactly the kind of narrative voice I live for. 'Games do broaden one's horizons, after all.' 'A penniless princess needed treasures!' She's simultaneously terrified and making memes in her head. That tonal balance is incredibly hard to pull off, and the author nails it every time. The dialogue between Sangsang and Old Wang is basically a verbal sword fight where neither person is saying what they actually mean. She thanks him for the refreshments with 'practiced ease' while internally plotting her rise to power. He offers a crystal sphere 'as devotion' while secretly trying to expose her. Every line of dialogue is doing double duty — advancing the plot AND revealing character. That's textbook-level writing. One thing I noticed: the author doesn't overuse dialogue tags. Most of it is just dialogue + action beats, which keeps the pacing snappy. No 'he said menacingly' or 'she replied sweetly' nonsense. The words themselves carry the tone. Respect.
