this book is very interesting, love it
The story is so incredibly engaging, but the initial translation is really difficult to read. I find it hard to connect with any of the characters, and I constantly have to pause to figure out what’s being said, which ruins the flow.
It’s not the worst translation I’ve ever encountered; it’s still comprehensible. Personally, though, I just can’t tolerate it. I must be spoiled by all the fantastic translated novels I’ve read before. I guess I’ll just have to wait for the manhwa. I also noticed there’s a new translator now, but I haven’t checked if they’re any better. Maybe if they retranslate from the beginning, I might give it another shot. If that ever happens, though.
Given all the positive reviews, I initially expected the book to be exceptional. However, after reading 18 chapters, I felt compelled to write my first review on Novel Updates to share my disappointment. Here's a summary of my thoughts:
Pros:
1. The chapter lengths are well-balanced, neither too lengthy nor too concise.
2. The characters, particularly the antagonist, aren't overly simplistic compared to typical Chinese novels. For instance, Daisy isn't easily swayed by the protagonist's praise of Count George.
Cons:
1. The author frequently indulges in internal monologues and backstory explanations, which dominate the chapters, rather than dialogue or action scenes.
2. The main character (MC) is frustrating. While I can empathize with her past, her continued tolerance of Daisy's fake friendship doesn't make sense given her new knowledge. The MC's excuse about wanting to understand Daisy's motives doesn't convince me; it's clear Daisy sought a sidekick.
3. The MC's backstory isn't utilized effectively. Someone who's been betrayed wouldn't急于 make new friends without caution, nor would they remain passive in potentially harmful situations.
4. Other characters lack depth, leaving me wanting more from Daisy and Logan's stories. Despite their potential, the author fails to explore them adequately.
5. The characters' ages feel inconsistent. They come across as immature, especially considering the MC's supposed 30 years old, and their dynamic seems more appropriate for teenagers.
6. The direction of the story is unclear. As a reader, I struggle to see the purpose or progression of the plot beyond seeking revenge on Daisy.
In conclusion, this book fell short of my expectations, and I'm disappointed. The MC's lack of agency and reliance on external events bother me, especially given her past experiences. Given the initial hook in the first chapters, it's hard to justify investing more time when there are better stories out there. I wish others a pleasant day/night.
i’ll keep reading thank you
it comes from webnovel so this is the best you can expect tbh
Imagine people here, snuggled up with this delightful novel, almost like a cherished treasure. Oh dear, let's address those who are still unsure about whether to read this, whether in machine translation (MTL) or the beautifully translated English chapters.
If you enjoy:
1. A heartwarming ML who masterfully employs Oscar-worthy performances to evoke sympathy for the protagonist
2. A laid-back ML with a clear priority list, where sustenance holds a special place (you might interpret "food" metaphorically too, wink)
3. Losing yourself in the cuteness of characters, wanting to dote on them like a parent, showering them with love and happiness
4. A couple bickering playfully, with the ML constantly oblivious to his wife's playful rebukes
5. Supportive sidekicks that you can't help but adore for both main characters
6. Both leads as equally passionate gamers
7. An ML without an icy demeanor - warm and approachable
8. An easy-to-read novel, perfect for translation
Here's a rephrased passage in English:
"In this dull and repetitive world, you brought color with your mere presence. Some might call the male lead lazy, and I won't argue against that. It's more like he's numbed to the expectations and pain around him, especially from his father, who couldn't see his true self. He prefers to live his life quietly, following his own path, appearing aloof, unemotional, and even a bit petty. Yet, in his own way, he cherishes those close to him, showing affectionate, sensitive, and sometimes annoying sides only for them.
Your arrival wasn't planned, but gradually, he found himself drawn to your every move. Your quirks, intelligence, and vibrant personality filled his days, turning his once monotonous existence into something more meaningful. You knew your limits, stood independently, and your beauty captivated him. Your daily interactions breathed life into their shared days, transforming their relationship from distant acquaintanceship to a genuine bond.
Now, as he realizes the depth of his feelings, the fear arises – what if you were to disappear? Are you a fairy, with your charming self-importance, or an angel sent to experience the simple joys of life? It doesn't matter; he's fallen for you and doesn't want you to go. He'll quietly stand guard by your door each night, hoping for the familiar greeting, the home-cooked meals, and the way you spoil him. So, stay here, with me, in our sanctuary."
