The grammar and spelling is awful, the lines are repeated and the storyline is confusing. Forget a book 2, I’m surprised I completed book 1. No thanks!

Okay so I need to talk about Yu Sheng and Yu Xuan because this one moment completely changed how I see their relationship and honestly it wrecked me a little. Up until this point, Yu Xuan was just this fragile half-sister who had been kneeling and suffering while everyone else was busy plotting. She was the weak one, the one everyone pitied. But then Yu Sheng notices her walking funny and asks if she applied medicine to her knees, and the reader is like... wait, what? Yu Xuan hadn't. She just endured it. And Yu Sheng — who has been running around handling crises, managing the household, dealing with her mother's anxiety, negotiating with ghost doctors — she stops everything to personally apply ointment to her half-sister's injured knees. "After applying this, you need to use a skillful touch to work it in," Yu Sheng explains patiently. "It's inconvenient for you to do it alone. Lift your skirt, and I'll apply it for you." This is such a domestic, intimate moment. It's not dramatic. There's no music swelling, no grand declaration. It's just one sister taking care of another. And Yu Xuan's reaction is everything — she's utterly overwhelmed, saying "I... I can do it myself" because she's not used to kindness. The text says "the two sisters, who had not been close before, ended up talking quite a bit today." That's it. That's the whole emotional arc right there. What I love is that Yu Sheng doesn't do this for show. She's exhausted, she's hungry (remember the noodles she never got to eat?), she's stressed about her father's life hanging in the balance. And still, she notices Yu Xuan's pain and addresses it. That's not performative. That's just who she is. And Yu Xuan — her response to this kindness is almost painful to read. She nearly bursts into tears but hides it because she's afraid her elder sister would dislike seeing her cry. This girl has been so starved for basic human warmth that a little ointment and a gentle touch brings her to the edge of sobbing. I keep coming back to this scene because it recontextualizes everything. Yu Sheng isn't just a capable leader handling a family crisis. She's someone who sees the people around her and actually cares about their suffering. The fact that she does this while waiting for a ghost doctor to potentially save her father's life makes it even more powerful. She's holding the whole family together with one hand and being tender with the other. I wonder what happens between them next. This moment feels like the beginning of something real between these two sisters, and I'm here for it.

I liked how the author showed 3 generation and loving their story. it keeps me thinking how time flies.

I hope Lyra is not tricked again bc she will be so heart broken also the kids maybe finding out Bryan is not their real dad? I just think some where Bryan bribe both doctors to fake the test? So many suspense in this book....
