It adheres closely to the romantic notion by ancient Chinese to fly on swords to immortality.The story is still in its infancy but I'm confident IET will expand the world and give us pleasant surprises like he usually does. But what really gets me is how each character has a completely distinct voice. Deng Xiuli's loud, unfiltered commentary. Gu Yizhi's terse, careful sentences. An Ruoyan's sharp sneers and internal monologue. Shi Meijiao's dramatic whining. Even the background women have a voice — "Oh my, what happened? So much blood." It's like reading a play where every character walks on stage already fully formed.

a few chapters in and already I'm hooked. Absolutely amazing in true Muse style. Every single one of her books are amazing and different from each other. I love how the books follow on so even when one ends you still get details of your favorite characters in the new one.
