The story is unique and intriguing. TBH this book is nail-biting-thriller. Ryan's character is complex and realistic. The synopsis could have been better though. Keep updating author.

I need to talk about the pacing in these first seven chapters because the author has some serious craft here. The structure is built on this brilliant foundation of delayed revelation. Chapter 1 drops us into the aftermath of a coup with zero exposition—we're learning alongside Gu Ningxi, who herself only knows "Aside from the final outcome of success and failure, she knew nothing of the details regarding the palace coup." That's a smart choice because it means the reader is experiencing the same disorientation and anxiety she is. We're not being told what happened; we're being made to feel what it's like to not know. Then the dream sequence in the middle of Chapter 1—"This was already the third time she had dreamed of such a scene"—is a masterclass in pacing. It's not just a flashback; it's a preview of the confrontation we're about to see again, but this time from her internal perspective. The repetition creates this eerie sense of inevitability, like we're watching a tragedy unfold and we can't look away. The transition from the intense, claustrophobic confrontation in the Imperial Study to the quieter, more domestic scene with Yinlan and the breakfast routine is jarring in the best way. It grounds us back in Gu Ningxi's daily life while the political tension simmers underneath. And then the Ministry of Works scene—where she's sitting among colleagues who are all calculating how far to stay from her—this is where the pacing really shines. The author lets the political world breathe around her, showing us the ripple effects of the coup through mundane details like the thirty percent expansion of Prince Zhao's manor and the silence in the hall when she enters. The chapter endings are also well-timed. Each one leaves you with a question or a revelation that propels you forward. No filler, no padding—just relentless, controlled momentum.
so far it good, however, please, please quit asking me to rate thus after about 4 or 5 chapters. ive paidto read this book, I would like to continue without further interruption. you already have my rating, I shouldn't have to keep repeating this. thank you. please let me finish thus novel
love the book...love how strong the female lead is and this is different from any werewolf story... it is a great read and one that u should not miss.
End could have been better.....We didn’t know what Jane felt and how did the two end up living together...there was not much of a story at the end.
