Let me just quote a few lines because I need you to hear this: "What? Just because I'm old I'm supposed to die? I spend my own money to eat a few pieces of meat, and I need your approval?" That's not just dialogue, that's a manifesto. And then Li Baoqing's response: "You're so old, one extra bite won't hurt! I'm still growing!" — the entitlement in that line is so perfectly written it hurts. This kid has never once considered that his mother might be hungry too. The author gives each character a completely different way of speaking. Li Baoguo is all defensive and whiny, Li Baoqing is cold and calculating, Li Baohuai is just hungry and lazy. Even Qin Xiangru has her own voice — quiet, apologetic, but with this undercurrent of resentment that Liu Meiling senses immediately. My favorite exchange has to be the one with Qin Xiangru at the end. Liu Meiling taking the soup meant for Li Mingliang and saying "It's all from the same pot — what's the difference?" while secretly swapping it? That's dialogue as warfare. She's performing kindness while executing a prank, and the reader is in on the joke the whole time. The narrative voice is also worth mentioning — it's got this wry, almost sarcastic tone that perfectly matches Liu Meiling's new mindset. When it describes her pinching the feather and rubbing it behind Qin Xiangru's back, the author doesn't need to say "she was being manipulative" — the action speaks for itself.
I keep thinking about the symbolism of the swapped daughters and how it mirrors so much of what's happening to Meng Shuhe. Meng Shuhe is repeatedly told she doesn't belong—she's too common, too rustic, too uncultured. But her actual worth isn't in her upbringing or her manners. It's in her resilience, her intelligence, her willingness to fight. The fact that she's pregnant with the Crown Prince's child (according to her son) completely upends the hierarchy that the Shen family tried to enforce. There's also the symbolism of the divorce letter itself. It's delivered by a subordinate, not by Shen Qian in person. This represents how she was treated as disposable, as someone who doesn't deserve direct confrontation. But she takes that letter and turns it into her own weapon—she's not just defending herself, she's demanding justice on her own terms. The unborn child speaking from the future is another powerful symbol. It represents the idea that our choices now echo forward in time, and that there's always a possibility of changing fate. Lu Xiu came back not just to save himself, but to save his mother. The child who was once powerless is now the one with the most knowledge, and the mother who was once powerless is the one with the most agency.

Shen Qingyuan bumps into this super handsome young master and accidentally stains his fancy blue robe with... pig offal juice. Like, come on. The universe really said 'let's make this awkward.' But here's what I love about how the author structured it: the whole chapter builds up this sense of danger. You've got Shen Qingyuan as a transmigrator who clearly doesn't know the social hierarchy, carrying a backpack full of smelly intestines, walking through a crowded dock area. Then BAM, she runs into someone who looks like they stepped out of a palace drama. I was genuinely sweating for her. The fact that the young master just waves it off and walks away? That's a setup. That's absolutely a setup. You don't introduce a character described as 'face as fair as jade, eyes as bright as stars' just to have them disappear. And Shen Qingyuan's final thought—calling him 'mute' because she assumed he couldn't speak—adds this delicious dramatic irony. The reader knows something she doesn't, and I am HERE for it. Also, the subplot with the chili peppers is brilliant worldbuilding through commerce. An old man selling something entirely new to this era, everyone calling him a fraud, and our protagonist is the ONLY one who sees the value. That's not just a funny scene—that's a business arc in the making. She's going to become some kind of spicy food empire boss, I just know it.

Ah... the characters are viewing the past thanks to some holy artifact, and they find out that the man that they put on death's door, the one who they thought of as the most villainous monster in history, he was in actually a soft man!? With a soft heart, that had no choice but to freeze under the assaults of the world. Wow, how sad...I can almost shed a tear...Tears for all the readers that dismiss this story as your usual webnovel bullshit. TL;DR: This novel is a gut-wrentcher that does not hold back on its punches when it slams the waterworks. Go read it, I'm not asking. Zi Long Ling Long Land Verisioness~~~Let's start with some concrete stuff before I start fan-boying. 1. Writing Quality: Top Notch. You hardly find any grammatical error, if any. Sentences? To the point, no BS mode. Obviously, it switches things up when expositions need to take center stage. To illustrate, long time webnovel readers of the modern day, the xianxia and system enthusiasts, the exposition sounds like a mirror. It's fun, humorous, and tries to give everything personality in a place where all you can find are edgelords who wish to see nothing but a similarly edgelord MC with a gazillion wives and strength that slaps people over and over again. It doesn't feel boring, but rather consistent. 8/10Update Schedule: Check the frequency of OWE's updates. You'd expect this new novel to be dead by now no? How surprising it must be, to find that the author hasn't missed a single fucking day since he first began?Let's hope he doesn't go on a long ass smoke break again. 10/10World Building: Take LoTM, but tone it down a few levels, and remove the 60 page exposition of how smooth and buttery the chicken peas are, or how juicy the pork is. Okay, maybe tone LoTM down a few more levels. Whatever it is, it's enough. The author expects you to go through the story and understand shit when needed, so he doesn't bore you with stuff. However, you can see that the world that they live in has history. Now how it develops in the future is not something I can say. For now, 6.3/10. Character Design: Take a character, introduce him/her to the main character, familiarize and build up rapport with the readers, and then kill them off. Textbook formula no?What's hard? Doing all this and executing in such a way that the death HITS.What's harder? Doing all THAT, in less than 90 chapters, TWICE, with a bunch of shit happening in the background.
