I need to sit with this line for a moment because it's doing so much work. "Better to be a shattered piece of jade than an intact tile." That's Yu Sheng's answer when her relatives are begging her to just compromise, to send Yu Xuan to the Houfu and save the family. And it's not just a cool quote—it's the entire philosophical thesis of the story compressed into one sentence. Jade versus tile. In Chinese culture, jade represents nobility, integrity, moral purity. It's precious precisely because it's rare and because it holds its value even when broken. A tile, on the other hand, is common, mass-produced, replaceable. An intact tile is worthless compared to a shattered piece of jade. That's the choice Yu Sheng is making: she'd rather the family be destroyed fighting for what's right than survive through compromise and shame. But I also think there's something deeper here about the world this story is built in. The entire Yu family operates on the logic that merchants cannot contend with nobility. 'Commoners do not contend with the wealthy, and the wealthy do not contend with officials.' That's Second Madam Yu's argument. It's the accepted wisdom of this society. And Yu Sheng is rejecting it not with a speech about justice or fairness, but with a single image that says: my family's worth is not measured by our survival at any cost. There's also the recurring motif of kneeling. Yu Xuan has been kneeling for two days. The aunts and uncles are kneeling metaphorically before the Houfu's power, willing to prostrate their own family to survive. And then Yu Sheng tells Yu Xuan to stand up. That's not just a physical action—that's a thematic statement. Standing up when the world tells you to kneel. That's the whole story right there. And Yu Sheng's father—this man who let his daughter travel the world, who wanted to earn enough fortune to find her a handsome live-in son-in-law so she'd never have to depend on anyone—his injury isn't just a plot device. It's the moment the world that protected her collides with the reality she now has to face. The father who gave her freedom is now helpless, and the daughter he raised to be free has to become the pillar the family never expected her to be.

Me again, Can you give us an idea how many chapters will be in this book? Hope are doing well in school . I understand it’s a lot but truly it would be a great gift to us reading this book to get long chapters like the ones you sent of the wrong book. Childish but I truly love this book.
