It's really good, one of the best I've read here. However, there's one aspect of the story that really bugs me, the protagonist often finds himself in situations that would mostly benefit him without any real repercussions. I'm at chapter 1152 and in the past few dozens of chapters, our MC got the sword saint inheritance and a divine beast of the darkness attribute which, in the mortal lands, only he could make full use of. Don't let me get started with the number of inheritance ground he's been in, it's is ridiculous and even if he happens to arrive late in all of them, he still got the most out of it. I guess my issue here is how stakes are almost nonexistent, moments in the story that was supposed to impede his growth ends up helping him in the long run. This makes a lot of the encounters lackluster. I would still recommend it though.

I need to talk about Gu Ruanci because WOW. This girl walked into that palace and absolutely dismantled Zhou Zhili piece by piece. Like, the way she handled him—cold, precise, every word landing exactly where it hurt most. When she said 'So what? Aren't those three foolish sons of yours also of my mother's bloodline? Yet didn't you still help them choose a lowly woman to call mother?' I literally gasped out loud. That is some next-level shade right there. But what really got me is the relationship between Zhuang Hefeng and the late Ye Hesheng. 'We, one Hefeng and one Hesheng, promised to be sisters for life, yet she left first.' The way Gu Ruanci comforted her—'She would rather give up everything to secure my freedom in life—how could she ever bow to those people?'—it shows how deeply she understands her birth mother's choices. And Zhuang Hefeng? She's not just a guardian. She's the living proof of Ye Hesheng's courage. These two women hold each other up in ways that feel so earned, so real. Then there's Ye Lanxin, who is genuinely chilling. The way she manipulates Zhou Qinzhu—'Keeping the enemy within sight makes it easier to wear her down'—while smiling and smoothing her hair? That's not a villain cackling in a dark tower. That's a mother doing this while being genuinely affectionate to her daughter. Creepier than anything supernatural. And Gu Congyun defending his daughter in front of the Emperor with 'None of your damn business' when Zhou Zhili questioned his claim? The man has zero filter and I love him for it. What kind of father-daughter dynamics are we building here, and who's going to surprise us next?

Okay I need to just talk about the dialogue in this section because it is genuinely excellent and I have strong opinions. Let me start with Mianmian's voice because it's perfect. She sounds like a child but a sharp one. When she says 'So you scored ten points!' after the succulent reveals Shen Buji's secret, the timing is comedic gold. And her explanation—'Failing with ten points is so embarrassing'—is exactly the kind of logic a clever kid would use to flip an insult. The author clearly understands how children actually speak. They don't just say adult things in a baby voice. Mianmian has her own rhythm, her own way of processing the world. Then there's Shen Buji's dialogue, and this character has such a distinct voice. He's teasing, lazy, almost performative. 'Gu Ge… this Qin kid is fun. Why not let me keep her here a while?' That line is delicious because it's clearly meant to provoke Gu Xu, to test boundaries, to be annoying. But then he follows up with 'Who hasn't scored single digits when young? Ten points, very normal' and you can hear the forced casualness. The dialogue reveals everything about his character—he's embarrassed but trying to play it cool. Gu Xu's voice is more grounded, more serious, but he still has moments of warmth. 'Little Mianmian, remember—don't act recklessly alone'—that line hits because it's clearly coming from someone who cares but doesn't know how to say it directly. The Qin family dialogue is where it gets really interesting. Qin Zichuan's lines are full of frustration and protectiveness. 'That madman Shen Buji is full of evil intentions—he gave you that gift for some hidden motive!' He's right to be suspicious but his delivery is so impatient. He can't actually communicate with this child. And Mianmian's response—'Third brother, your spit got on my face'—is absolutely legendary. The silence after that line? I can hear it. The author writes dialogue that does double duty. Every conversation reveals character while also advancing the plot. Even the plant dialogue works. The ever-green's message '[I don't know. You're not the first to stake out here…]' feels ancient and detached, which is exactly the voice you'd expect from a plant that's been standing in a villa garden for who knows how long. And the succulent's response '[Wow wow wow, the little girl can even communicate with me! She knows my secret—remember to probe her.]' has this gossipy, excited energy that's so different from the ever-green. Each plant has personality. The little tabby's warnings are urgent and practical. The dialogue across all these characters—human and non-human—feels distinct and purposeful. I also want to mention how the author uses dialogue to create humor without breaking tension. The ten-point exam exchange is funny but it also reveals that Shen Buji has a vulnerable past, that he was once a failure in school, that he's not just a cartoon villain. The humor deepens the characterization. That's skilled writing. One line that really stuck with me: 'Master math and sciences, and you won't fear the cultivation world; learn politics, history, and geography, and you'll always have confidence in conversation.' That's Mianmian recounting family wisdom, and it tells us so much about the Qin family's values and world in a single quoted sentence. The dialogue here never feels like exposition dumps. Even the worldbuilding information comes through naturally in conversation.
