I would so love to rate this story as a 5, however there are some key issues that ruin this story for me.
The first major problem in this story is the writing quality. Now I'm not 100% sure, but I'm assuming the author English is a secondary language. The constant and blatant grammatical errors ruin 99% of the immersion of the story for me.
The updating doesn't seem to be very stable.
The story development seems to be fairly well done, it does need some work though.
The character design seems to be fleshed out nicely. The author makes a strong effort to give his mc a strong background story that gives justice to things hes done/is doing.
The world background also gets explained fairly well. Though there haven't been many chapters, so far this part seems done as well as can be.
Honestly my biggest complaint comes from the writing quality. If the author could fix this, I believe he would have a solid story.
Dark of night and waxing moon
come to us a single pool
hear us sing our witches' song
and send us moonlight clear and strong
Earth and water, wind and fire
one and all you must conspire
to banish bad for goodness sake
cos I need moonshine for my cake
Weary travelers long ago
shared their bread and made a vow
that they will be forever friends
and so shall be until time ends
SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGS COME ON!SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGS
Is it just me or is the picture is a knock-off of the my vampire system I mean I don't mind but I don't know its kind of funny
I have never read a short novel before but i guess i'll give it a try since i have some free time anyway, but honestly i will probably finish reading the whole thing in 3 days,
How great is this book! I truly enjoy fanfiction and this one is really great!
underrated book that need a lot of attention. great job author, highly recommended.
You got all my stones for the day, Keep going!
As a review for readers... I read a lot. This interests me.
I think the story has a unique flow that reminds me of maybe only one other thing I've read, and even that only due to some similarity in tone. I'm enjoying the different pressures on the MC and his work to orient himself. I think the side characters could stand to be a bit deeper, as they've switched out quickly so far. That said there has been some reason to do so, and what we do see of them is relatively solid, though stereotypical at times. A bit of cringe when the woman is overtaken by her maternal instincts as her brother acts as a cold young master.
The main worry I have for the novel as it progresses is how/if it will form a deeper plot beyond the current motivation of "growing to survive". However, that is a common issue and this story has a decent foundation to build something good. You can see the author playing with different narrative tricks at different points, which is fun in itself. Overall, it will be fun to watch both this author and the story grow. Its on my primary reading list, and I invited other readers to do the same.
It's good, but I would like it to go deeper about the MC, how he thinks, how his life has been, and a little more about the world he is in, what situation they are in
The story is wonderful. He acts very similar to katou kid, the only parts that I did not like were that he got partners and that the story stopped in the middle of a chase. With his system he could have done it by himself. The story does not get to the part where the partners have helped him before the story stopped.
The story is written very well, I only noticed one flaw where the detective suspected something he had no reason to suspect.
Writing Quality: The writing quality is good overall, as I can understand it, but there are still some mistakes. I would rate it 4 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Story Development: I didn't enjoy the story development much, except for the moments when the main character (MC) used his brain towards the end. That part was good. I would rate the story development 3 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
Characters: Unfortunately, I don't like the MC. I found him to be unintelligent, to the point where it frustrated me. It bothered me how easily he allowed others to see him as weak. Although there were some instances where he regained his strength, they were infrequent. Overall, the character development was not satisfactory, and I would rate it 2 stars. ⭐⭐
World Background: The world background has some details, but it often lacks sufficient descriptions. For example, the author uses generic names like "ruin city" without providing enough specific details to fully imagine it. I would rate the world background 3 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
Updating Stability: The updating stability is excellent, earning it a 5-star rating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Evaluation: The story has potential, but the MC's development is a major drawback. It took too long for him to start using his brain effectively, and expecting readers to wait for over 50 chapters for that moment is frustrating. I hope the author considers improving the MC's character earlier in the story.
(Note to the author: Please consider this review as constructive feedback. It took me 10 minutes to write, and I hope you take it to heart.)
Truly a really engaging story with very well developed charcters. This story has been a really enjoyable read that is really unique in how it has really focused on the emotional and character development side of the story rather than just on plot.
I really appeciate that the author has not put a price on any of the chapters and it’s clear that they are writing this story because they are passionate about it. If you have a method of donation that takes less of a cut, I would totally be open to donate to you! (Unless you do actually want us to donate through gifts in WN)
From all the web novels I have read so far, this story is one of my favourites in that I really enjoy how much personality all the characters have and I like that this story is willing on focusing on the emotional challenges and developments of all the characters. For example, many other novels gloss over how it might feel to actually kill someone or sentient being or only mention it for a few paragraphs but I like that this story actually shows James’ development for better or for worse in a manner that feels realistic and human like.
Another aspect that I really enjoy about this novel is the very frequent perspective changes that occur. I think this really helps flesh out each of the characters and continue developing the background in addition to making it feel like every character is living out their own lives while the story continues progressing. Trickster’s Apostle really utilizes writing through different perspectives more than any other web novel I have read and I find it very enjoyable.
To the author, thank you for also having artwork made which wasn’t something you needed to do but I appreciate that you put the effort to do so anyways.
To potential readers, while it is not something I am expecting from the author, it should be noted that the release schedule of this novel is pretty loose and not very consistent. Of course there is no point in rushing an author to release anything, I think you should just keep that in mind.
Now to discuss areas that could be further improved:
While I feel that the characters are very well developed, the background does not. While areas are mentioned and I have a general understanding of how this world is set up, I feel that there is still more room to develop the actual world and how it is like. Outside of the school and some specific locations, many areas of the world have each only really been described in a few paragraphs. At the same time, unlike other novels I don’t feel like this lack of detail is particularly detrimental to the story because the plot/events we are focusing on aren’t very reliant on it? (Even I don’t fully understand why I don’t find this to be that big of an issue for this story in particular)
In general, I think this story is really engaging and unique in its focus on the characters which I find really enjoyable. I look forward to following this story and I think I will edit this review with any feedback I would have as the story continues. This is one of my favourite web novels and I really want to see how it will develop!
