I need to talk about Lin Qiaozhi's family dynamics because this chapter absolutely destroyed me in the best way. Her mother Jiang Hongmei — what a tragic figure. She's the eldest daughter, always sending nice things back to her natal family, always prioritizing everyone else. And her father? The only factory worker in the village who "made it to the city," so he puts on airs back home while their own family lives miserably. Lin Qiaozhi sees ALL of this clearly at fifteen. When she asks about the canned oranges and mung bean cakes, she's not being greedy — she's being SURVIVALIST. She knows if she doesn't take them now, they'll disappear into her mother's family. And the moment she says "I can finish them myself," her brother Lin Jiadong is SHOOK. This is the girl who never admits she wants anything, who always argues when people criticize her, now just... taking what's hers. No apology. No hesitation. The scene where she mimics the beautiful spirit's tone back at her mother — "boys should learn to do more housework" — is the most satisfying moment in the entire chapter. Her father chokes on his rice. Her mother is stunned. And Lin Qiaozhi? She's just walking out smiling into the sunrise. What changed? The dream, obviously. But more than that, she stopped internalizing the idea that she should be small and accommodating. She became herself, fully, and the world didn't end. In fact, everything got brighter.
