I think these are erotic stories combined into one book.
It was an amusing read, filled with laughter! Lucas is quite the entertaining character, like a tsundere with a comical side. His hypocrisy towards Luo Ran is hilarious - it's so entertaining to see him backtrack. I also enjoyed the various supporting relationships; I would have loved to explore their stories further as well. Sigh, more depth would have been fantastic.
I haven't completed the novel due to its extensive length, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts.
World Building: It takes place in our world, set around the early 2010s, with a unique twist.
Character Development: The author excels at creating vivid characters; each individual has a distinctive personality. There's a slight risk of encountering unflattering portrayals of celebrities, like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but overall, they remain relatable and likable. The author also skillfully shifts perspectives to Renly's fans, providing insight into their admiration, which adds depth.
Renly himself is portrayed as a charming gentleman and genius, a consensus among the narrative. However, I'd appreciate if his past life had a more significant impact on his character, as I occasionally forget about his reincarnation aspect.
Cons: The humor attributed to Renly might seem amusing in the original Chinese, but when translated, it loses some of its charm. It's a minor issue, though, compared to having a character that's not overly dull or awkward.
Translation: There are currently 600 chapters available online (450 when I started), and the remaining need to be manually translated. Fortunately, the language is relatively simple. Using tools like DeepL enhances the translation, although it takes longer than directly translating on Google.
In conclusion, as an avid entertainment industry enthusiast, this novel ranks high among my favorites. It delves into extraordinary detail about films and the industry, although sometimes the level of detail can be overwhelming.
I would rate this 5 stars for its humor, but deduct one star due to the excessive use of cliches in the stories. The initial seven story arcs were captivating, but unfortunately, after that point, the plot became repetitive. The main character consistently relies on the same two strategies to win好感, and predictably, they always involve Spoiler dying, which starts to feel tiresome after a while.
I’m here to say, this story really gets better over time, so if it sounds interesting, you should give it a chance. The translators and editors are doing a fantastic job! I actually dropped it early on because the story and the main characters seemed a bit too simple for my taste, and the smut was a little too cringy (if you’ve read Japanese smut, you know what I mean). However, after powering through to chapter 20+ (and skipping some of the smut because it wasn’t my thing), I got really invested in the story.
There is a lot of mystery here, particularly regarding how the Gods who rule the different countries might have their own dramas that translate into the discrimination and racism in the modern world. I always enjoy good world-building, so I’m excited to see how it all unfolds.
Other reasons to read it: The male lead (ML) is just so in love with the main character (MC), and after the life MC has had, he really deserves it. Additionally, MC has lived a life of discrimination and internalized a lot of it, so it’s heartwarming to see him realize that people love him (both ML and the original capture targets) despite his differences, and that he should actually want more for himself.
