I’m only on chapter 18 and the way this book has a choke hold on me ... it’s SO good!!
I need to talk about the phone interview scene because it is genuinely one of the most impressive displays of voice work I've encountered. Su Jinxiu has to pretend to be her daughter on the phone, and the author writes it like this: "Hello." "Is this Ms. Zhao Shiyu?" "Speaking." "You've applied for a loan of 300,000 yuan. May we ask what the funds are for?" "Investment. I've found a mutual fund I like and want to increase my position." And then the narration drops this: "She spoke as though discussing the most ordinary thing in the world." But here's the thing that got me—"She had mastered Zhao Shiyu's manner of speaking to perfection. After all... She had listened to that voice for her entire life. From her daughter's first cries as an infant... To the sweet, spoiled tone of adolescence... To the sharp, cutting voice she used as adult. Every inflection. Every habitual phrase. Every subtle nuance. Su Jinxiu knew them all by heart." This is a mother who has absorbed her daughter's entire personality through decades of listening, and now she's using that intimate knowledge as a weapon. And then she does the same thing with Zhao Zixuan—lowering her voice, mimicking his lazy, carefree tone: "Hello?... Yeah, it's me. What do I need the loan for?... Opening a bar with a couple of friends." The author makes it clear that Su Jinxiu's greatest asset isn't her interdimensional space or her business acumen. It's that she knows these people better than they know themselves. The dialogue throughout these chapters is sparse but razor-sharp. Zhao Mingyuan's voice on the phone—"...Jinxiu?" with that trace of surprise and caution—tells us everything about a man who has spent forty years calculating his gains and losses.
good enjoyed reading
i hope that this still get an update
Good story highly recommended ??
The main character is Obito's undercover agent, who is the same age as Itachi. This is my favorite ongoing Naruto fanfiction. There are no stupid and repetitive bloodline limits like the Sharingan and Wood Style. Even the Taijutsu techniques are borrowed from other anime. He essentially acquires Taijutsu and Kenjutsu skills from other animes and takes credit for creating them. To others, he is the Tobirama of the Taijutsu branch.
