That's the whole emotional payload of these chapters right there. Jiang Tang is wearing a necklace worth more than a house down payment around her neck and what she's actually processing is the fact that someone chose her. Not because she performed, not because she manipulated, not because of some transaction—just because. Shen Xiunian's line about the gift is so deceptively simple: "The little one got a gift, so the big one should get one too." He's framing it as casual, almost bureaucratic, like he's distributing holiday bonuses. But the effect on her is devastating. She goes from "What is this?" to sitting there with moist eyes, looking like a cat that doesn't trust humans but is slowly being convinced. And the milk tea scene—oh god, the milk tea scene. She's so flustered after he drinks from her straw that she finishes her cup in three gulps and scurries away to throw it away. She's literally running from the intimacy. But then he catches up to her and asks "Angry?" and chuckles. He KNOWS. He knows exactly what he's doing to her and he's not stopping. The most tender moment though? When she thinks about her mom and her expression softens, and Shen Xiunian notices and says "Because you looked very tender just now." He reads her like a book. He sees the moments when she lets her guard down and he names them. That's the kind of attention that doesn't just make you fall in love—that makes you realize you've been invisible your whole life and someone just handed you a spotlight.
