Fucking great novel. no boring tropes amazing world building only complain is the way side characters are used. The story follows a ****** but interesting path which allows you to remember improper moments or characters from back when. The cultivation system is not heavily focused on on a good way since it allows more interesting storyline instead of the generic repitition of how oh I just broke through now you will be doomed

She's not just speaking; she's staging an event. Every word is calculated to maximize damage while maximizing audience. And the reactions! The servants' dialogue is perfectly pitched: "How dare you!", "What filthy nonsense are you spouting!", "Such vulgar language! Second Miss, don't listen to her—you'll dirty your ears!" Each line reveals character. The personal maid is defensive, the elderly servants are concerned about propriety, and they're all using dialogue to try to reassert control over a situation that's already spiraling. The contrast between their formal, restrained speech and Shen Yihuan's brazen vulgarity is what makes the scene work. But the real dialogue gem comes later, during the confrontation with Madam Li. Shen Yihuan's response to "Where do you think you're going?" is pure gold: "What, are you inviting me to stay for dinner?" Together they're unstoppable. The shopkeeper's dialogue is another example of the author's skill with voice. "Miss, are you buying rice or flour? We've just received a fresh batch of polished rice. It's forty-five copper coins per dou." This is functional, transactional, and completely authentic. It grounds the scene in reality without distracting from the main characters. What's remarkable is how the dialogue reveals power dynamics. Shen Yihuan's verbal aggression against the Shen family, Jiang Changfeng's calm authority against Madam Li, the shopkeeper's deference to what he perceives as wealth—every conversation is a negotiation of power. And Shen Yihuan keeps winning.

Will just slip in here and say that this is currently one of the most popular novels in China at the moment. It is famous mostly for its great lines (We have a lot of classical sayings in Chinese, and this novel tweaks them a bit to create a humorous twist to the story). Hard to tell how those jokes will turn out in English, but if it could be delivered well, I'm sure it will be an enjoyable read.Some background: Spiritual energy is gradually returning back to the world, and supernatural ability users are gradually awakening within the populace. Our MC, Lu Shu, comes from an orphanage, and he has a younger sister, which is actually a non-blood related younger child from the same orphanage who is very close to him. As the orphanage isn't really a kind place to them, the two children left the orphanage to survive in the world through their own means. By the time the story starts, life was hard, but they were still getting by with their own strength. Shortly after the story starts, the MC awakens to a system where he can trade the "hostility" of others into points where he could trade for stuff required for cultivation. However, the hostility must be directed toward him, thus beginning the days where our MC finds all ways to piss off others to win their hostility.
I vote for this only to get disappointed even through I didn't even read a single chapter and I keep on voting for this novel since I though it another female protag cultivation but it only anicents times :( gg
The first chapter was amazing. I loved his character and humour. But I feel like it’s a harem thing lol, I might be wrong. It also kinda remembers me of the anime, Gotobun no hanayome. Hopefully he choses only one ÙwÚGood job author! Keep it up?
I wouldn't recommend novel for people to read. I guess this is authors first novel, cause inexperience is felt while reading this. While premise could be interesting, lack of any research about america and police give novel too many defects at start. e.g. crossing the border with mexico while vaulting over the fence/wall (most of us mexican border in 2003 didnt have fence/wall and texas-mexican border is river), also promotion to detective just cause of good combat skills, or detectives having uniforms. Also instead of Sherlock type of detective, you get a Rambo in a police.
This is really the very first cultivation novel where MC is neither power hungry nor intent on face slapping nor judgemental of other people. He hasn't even killed anyone! And he never went around stealing stuff while claiming that he was the only good person around. The most hilarious parts are those where everyone acts like typical cultivation novel people do and then he comes and treats them like an ***** would delusional teenagers.Like... Cultivator a: You did not give me face! I will murder you for dishonoring me!Cultivator b: I won't give in! I will show you the power of whatever sounds mystical and impressive!MC (slightly annoyed): Brawls are forbidden in the store. Please go outside if you want to fight. If you don't stop you will be stripped and kicked out.Cultivator a: How dare you! Do you know who I am?Cultivator b: How dare you ignore this great me? *Tries a surprise attack on C. b**C. a dodges and tries to destroy furniture but fails*Then Whitey strips both and kicks them out while MC goes back to the kitchen to cook for his dog.
