Can Zhai Zu go wrong? I started reading this particular novel due to an interesting title. I had never heard of Zhai Zu before. I've read Er gen, IET, and loads of other light novels, of which I barely remember a few. However ToHG stands out alongside titles like Dungeon Defense, and Circus of Oubeniel.StoryAh man, I love the pacing of this story! It's got ups and downs, but the pacing is beautiful. The Mc doesn't get sudden powerups, nor does he suddenly hit rage mode. He works hard, and is taught well. Our MC isn't some insignificant punk who 'struggles' his way up the ladder through the thickest plot armour you will ever see. No, this is a well thought out plot with a well thought out MC, in an incredibly unique situation. Having practically every single Legendary figure of the older generation teaching you the greatest skills of all time, doesn't lead to an overpowered MC to the extent that he starts becoming Meng Hao's second cousing. No, instead the ride is fair, and while our MC doesn't lose, he is cunning enough not to fight against overpowered enemies straightforwardly. Every encounter with any enemy is meaningful, and sets up the story progression, albeit at a steady pace. All in all, the story is really fun, at times thriller/cliffhanger while at other times its a slice of life tale.World BuildingI feel that ToHG is possibly the greatest masterpiece in the art of world building. A magnificent and inviting world, possibly filled with incredibly mysterious secrets, and dark truths. There seems to be a little bit of cliche when you think about the fallen world of gods and devils, Zhai Zu has pulled it off so incredibly well. There's something really inviting about the world. For starters, the world isn't just there as a stage on which the main character can just screw around. Instead, there's actual focus on the world. An ancient buddha statue being more than what it seems, a trapped noble dragon that turns out to be for more sinister, strange evils that haunt the land, and so much more. And for once, the main character actually thinks about the world, explores it, and enjoys its beauty. I personally just wish I could live in such a magnificent place. After all, with so much to explore, just as the story starts, its nearly irresistableCharacters Every single character is enthralling. They have depth, and the MC doesn't just go around threatening the young masters of various random sects. Instead, the Mc spends much of his time with his demonic companions, or the elderly of the village. The interactions between them are to an extent humorous(not particularly), but certainly heartwarming. Every character serves a purpose, and isn't just some stepping stone for the lone wold MC to kill before becoming a god. I end up caring what happens to Granny Si, Blind, Deaf and Old Ma, even though we're only 70 chapters through the novel(as of this review). And for once, people aren't shallow. They have motivations, and flaws, and every character is very unique. TranslationsThe translations, while not particularly great like that of the grandmaster strategist, is still good. Occasional spelling errors exist, but there are no significant mistakes, and the story reads with most of the original tone and style of the author carried over. I just wish the speed was faster.(NEED MORE CHAPTERS!!!)All in all, this is probably one of my favourite novels Qi, alongside Reverend Insanity, TKA, TSS and other such dark horse favourites. My reccomendation to anybody- read it. This is hella good.
I refuse to believe this novel was more voted for than some of the others ones. They're not even trying to hide their under the table deals at this point.

This is the story of a monk who is basically overpowered compared to the enemies he faces. 800 year-old Yokai? Sent off to Buddha in one hit. Fortunately, the protagonist is Japanese, so Chinese nationalism is almost guaranteed to be non-existent. That's a plus.This novel is great for a casual read. Plot is enjoyable. Definitely better than the other trash cliche novels out there. Give it a try and it will make an excellent addition to your reading list.
I like how ruthless the MC is to his enemy's! It is very entertaining to read and I like how smart he is as well. All and all this is an amazing novel and I love where it's going! There are a couple things that annoy me though,First off is how he kept the baby of the princess. Like if you could turn off the baby making function in your baby maker then why not do that as soon as your able too? When the baby was born he didn't kill it,I know that's messed up but baby's are annoying. But if MC didn't want to do that then just go back in time and don't have sex with her at all or make sure you can't have children and then have sex with her! That would be the smartest choice because people can get to the MC by the baby! I know he can just rewind time but that's just a hassle! Speaking of the MC and his crazed sex drive! He is smart until he gets sex then he's an idiot! Other then that stuff I love where this story is going and can't wait to see it!
A fantastic reboot of I Can Turn Into a Fish, this one reimagines the series with an electric eel protagonist - a sleeker and much more marketable mascot. Think of pikachu, but slimier and oh-so-cuddly.
Author is mosly copying the plot from previous or similar work like this.. ...........................................So nothing new......Good for those who can read repetitive novel continuously.......
the overall story was funny and enjoyable but at the later chapters Leveling Up stopped altogether which was disappointing altogether if you wish to read a story were the MC take thing somewhat seriously this is not the story for you. the only thing I hate about this story is the lack of closing because it end on a cliffhanger
This novel is guilty of a great crime. it has become yet another addiction. normally I find myself in a fantasy world far from CEO and business, however, today I found the novel to change my mind. I found this early and read every chapter. Waiting for another will be the worst, but when it drops I will be there first.
Great job author, I find myself really enjoying this novel. The only gripe I have with the story is that sometimes it loses focus like in fog battle, I think we could’ve entirely done away with that part of the story in 1-2 chapters but instead the pacing got bogged down by the in-depth description of the battle and of what was going on on the side of Adhanian camp. I think a brief summary would’ve sufficed and we should always return the focus on the protagonist and what is happening around him. Alexander is the greatest attraction of the series and reading about great of exploits of secondary characters is cool-and-all but please don’t spend 5-10 chapters on that alone
Extremely interesting with its world building, a realistic government and the way it responds to "new" things. The MC is also realistic with slight antihero qualities and does not have a hero complex that most novels MC suffer from, nor is he overly arrogant and tramples over other characters, Other characters are also well though out and not just NPC A, B, C who are tossed out after being used in one chapter.
