"Not yet."
"I don't care what the probability is! As long as there's a chance of someone needing help, I'm ready to put my life on the line."
"Ambrose..."
"I have always knew that you were a little, unique elf." Delphi looked up, the true genius behind grinning with delight as Helena frowned. Both sisters had the same shade of brown in their eyes. While Helena was darker, Delphi was playful and light. And the two sisters used it to their advantage to form personas. "Unlike you, I grew dependent on my parents... I trusted them and their favoritism to carry my revenge... I never knew..." She gazed into her sister, a longing look she had perfected in her last lives. No one would see she was playing. No one would see the pieces she conjured, and shaped to perfect the plan. Elena knew what to do now, watching the other woman shake in rage.
After the truck hit Max, his body got thrown like a rag-doll across the streets for a good ten meters before it came to a halt, people started surrounding the scene, some people screaming frightened by the bloody scene some just took pictures while few good people tried to give first aids to the body and comforting the driver who's face is as white as sheet trying to call 911 with his shaky hands.
She's new, bound to make mistakes. Hell, you've been a vampire for 24 years and you're still not perfect.
Madam Victoria.
She blushed slightly. "He actually hasn't... but..."
In truth only part of Pò's talent came from the training Xiao gave her, most of it was the result of a new soul and mind residing in that body, the transmigrated Fei-Dao had been trained by her grandfather, a Master in guiding and directing things from behind the scenes so that she could still guide her family's multi-billion economic empire from the shadows while her idiot big brother was in the spotlight.
The pacing in these chapters is absolutely vicious and I am here for it. Let me walk you through how the author builds tension like a master. We start with what seems almost comedic — Lin Zhaocai passed out drunk on the street, Xu Lian kicking him, the whole 'husband and child' bit where Broken Snake shows up and Xu Lian desperately tries to bribe her with money. It's funny. It's light. The hotel staff thinking Broken Snake is either a philanthropist or a psychopath after she pays 20,000 gold for a broken door — I actually laughed out loud. Then. The pivot. Xu Lian checks the intercepted messages and the tone shifts so abruptly it's like walking off a cliff. One moment she's watching a low-quality remake of The Temptation of Wolves and making a bucket list, the next she's reading Gu Ying's cold, calculated orders: 'That woman is extremely cunning. If she tries to approach Song Jinze and leak info, detonate the chip immediately. Ideally, take Song Jinze with her.' The word 'ideally' — that's the detail that made my blood run cold. She's not a person to them. She's a tool that might need to be sacrificed with its target. And then the structure does something brilliant. It doesn't just reveal the betrayal — it shows us the countdown. Broken Snake and White Chess arranging a meeting. 'ETA five hours.' Then thirty minutes later, Xu Lian discovers it and realizes the meeting is happening in thirty minutes. The author keeps tightening the screw: she can't remove the chip (they'll know), she can't run blindly (Broken Snake is tracking her), she can't stay (White Chess is coming). Every option is a trap. And the chapter ends with her driving like a maniac, Lin Zhaocai stumbling behind her, and Broken Snake sipping milk tea before realizing the target is fleeing. The final image — 'Broken Snake drained her milk tea in a few sips and pursued' — is such a casual, almost bored action right before the climax. That contrast is pure tension engineering.
