The opening image of this whole sequence is absolutely cinematic. Su Wanqing drying meat over a charcoal fire, the aroma spreading through the room, dispelling the gloom. You can literally SMELL this scene. The spices, the smoky charcoal, the reddish-brown shiny meat — it's domestic warmth against the backdrop of an approaching typhoon. The author sets up this cozy little moment before the door bursts open and everything explodes. And the weather! The rain throughout these chapters is basically a character itself. "The rain fell like broken strings of pearls" — that line gave me chills. It's poetic but not overwrought. Later, when Su Wanqing walks back from the infirmary, the rain intensifies: "The rain fell harder, soaking her jacket and leaving dark patches. Wind carrying the dampness seeped into her collar." The environment mirrors her internal state perfectly. She's cold, exposed, and walking into uncertainty, and the storm is right there with her. The infirmary scene is another standout. Four iron-frame beds, the one by the window with a white curtain, the strong smell of disinfectant mixing with damp post-rain air. It's clinical and cold — the opposite of that warm charcoal-kitchen opening. Su Weiwei behind that white curtain looks pitiful, pale, tears streaming, and the whole setup feels like a stage where a drama is being performed. Lin Man even directs it, stepping in with her enamel basin and perfectly timed sighs. Then there's Zheng Songyun appearing at the end, leaning against a military truck piled with "Disaster Relief Supplies," rain snuffing out his cigarette. The visual of him watching Su Wanqing through the downpour — her like a sapling braving the storm — is such a vivid, almost novelistic image. The author has a real gift for painting scenes that feel alive, not just described but experienced.
I have to appreciate how natural the dialogue is in this book. Every character sounds like an actual human being, not a plot device. Emma's dialogue is perfect for a child. "Mom, you're back! Emma didn't leave the room." The repetition of her own name is exactly what a young child does. And her meltdown: "Waaah—doesn't Mom want Emma anymore? Emma will be good, Emma won't run around, Emma can wash herself, Emma can eat by herself, waaah..." This is a child bargaining in the only way she knows how—listing her accomplishments like a resume for love. Jolene's voice is also very distinct. She's pragmatic but warm. When she tells Emma "Mom just has something to do. Emma be good and stay with the big sister," she's being honest without sharing too much. And later, when she's reassuring Emma: "Really, Mom? Is Emma being good?" "Really. Because of Emma, Mom saved time. I'm sure I'll find a job soon." She's framing things positively for the child while also being strategic. The staff member at the treatment center has a great line: "Your willingness to quit is very strong, and coming here on your own for help is already half the battle." It's the kind of thing a real counselor would say—encouraging but not overly sentimental. Isabella's dialogue is brief but effective. She's the gatekeeper of opportunities, and her lines like "I went looking for you this morning but you weren't in" feel like something a busy church coordinator would actually say. The narration itself is also worth mentioning. It's close third-person, staying firmly in Jolene's head, and it captures her internal calculations without feeling cold. When she thinks about lying about her work experience, we understand her reasoning immediately: "A little thick-skinnedness wasn't shameful." The narrator doesn't judge her—it just presents her logic. The dialogue never feels forced or expository. People say what they mean, and what they don't say is often more important.
Never read a chinese inspired novel before but I liked reading manhua so I still enjoyed this one, it was a great start and I love the character names, a decent book, I recommend this!

Im so much into omegaverse genre. This story ,as per author is her very first book written and poster. for a beginner , she doing a great job ! the story she would like to convey is really effective. characters are being developed slowly, emotions are well expressed. to be honest , there are some errors in between but so minimal and i would still commend the author for doing a very good job on this. I am so in love with this book , with the people in it , with the love story, with their heartbreaks. i love everything about this book. Im really hoping that it will updated frequently . thank you for sharing your talent with us.

as it is my first novel I have English as my second language and is not that good mistakes are inbound to happen I am writing this only to be clear this is made only for my fun
Author here, first 40-50 chapters are at a slower pace. But the story picks up quite rapidly soon after. I should also apologise for the inconsistent writing quality in the beginning but this does get better quickly and should offer a good reading experience overall. Magic Vs Cultivation has been re written a few times, but I'm finally on the right path. Thanks to everyone who reads, views or feels utterly appalled by the things within this book.
