A good novel, well that's expected from I Eat Tomatoes, what's unexpected is that it's quite different than his other works. Well not totally, it still has the same basic style, concepts and flaws(e.g romance) , but it's in a different frame. It starts in a post-apocalyptc earth and it develops in a solid wuxia sci-fi story. The cultivation system ofc is nicely made, as is the world development, as expected from IET there is a massive "universe" to explore. Finally the translation quality is good and the translaton provides what he pledges.

The author writes dialogue like a weapon—every character has a distinct voice and the author never lets you forget it. Manager Fang's dialogue is all defensive posturing. "Students are still just students. The crops they grow are unstable." He sounds like every middle-manager who's ever tried to hide incompetence behind authority. But then when he's caught, his voice cracks. "I don't know what happened to that lettuce"—the panic is audible even in text. Boss Zhao is different. Confident to the point of arrogance. "Fair is fair." He genuinely believes he's being reasonable even as he's trying to recruit Jiang Luokui away from her contract. His voice is smooth, corporate, always calculating. But Jiang Luokui—oh man. Her dialogue is minimal but devastating. "It's not mine." "You might as well try the one I just harvested." "Five times. Take it or leave it." She doesn't waste words. Every sentence has purpose. The author makes her sound like someone who's learned that speaking less means people have to lean in harder to hear you. Liang Quan's voice is warm but firm. When he says "I happened to see this at Sister Chen's place! When I tasted it yesterday, it was perfectly fine!" you can hear the genuine frustration. He's not a politician. He doesn't play games. He tastes something good and he defends it. And Wang Meng's messages—"Tell me right now—can your ability cultivate plants into medicinal herbs?! The effect is insane!!"—that's pure internet energy. The exclamation points, the urgency, the complete lack of filter. It's such a realistic best friend voice. The author's narrative voice itself is also worth noting. It's observational without being cold, witty without being pretentious. When it describes Jiang Luokui's calm response to Manager Fang's scheme, it doesn't need to tell us she's smart—we see it in what she says and doesn't say.
