And then Lu Zhiyou receives it, notices the tassel was personally made by her, and hangs it on his waist. That's not nothing. That's a guy who claims "matters of love and affection are exhausting and troublesome" literally wearing something she made on his person for everyone to see. The contrast between his words and his actions is delicious. And then Qing Ping, his servant, has this whole internal monologue about whether his young master might have fallen for Miss Leng, only to dismiss it and convince himself it's just about avoiding trouble. But the reader knows better. We see the truth that even the characters can't admit to. Classic cliffhanger energy. They're at the hospital, things have been emotionally charged, and then — driver takes them to a mall. What's happening next? I need to know. The author is good at leaving you hanging just when you think the scene is over.

The tribe's reaction — people begging him to teach them, offering to trade tubers and beast meat for hand-hand root — shows how much his practical knowledge is already making waves. Also, the subplot of Lan Xiu appearing, transforming into this massive eight-meter white tiger, and then just... leaving? That's got to be setting something up. The way Yu Yan's heart pounded with both fear and this weird urge to touch those ears? The author is definitely planting seeds for a romantic subplot. And the fact that Lan Xiu glanced at him before running off — that's not nothing. The gathering trip itself is basically the B-plot: Yu Yan integrating into the tribe, learning the world, and accidentally becoming the guy who solves their fish problem. It's a slow burn but it's working for me.

It's good for having a good time, but it falls short in many ways. The writing is very erratic. It constantly switches from first person to third person or worse, a combination of both. The characters behave in strange ways, it seems like they are all either completely against or completely in favor of the protagonist, there are never any gray areas. The protagonist is also strange. She always seems to apply morality to whatever suits her at the moment. He kills dozens of knights for invading, but then mourns the death of a couple of elves. Power levels are also in flux.Finally, I think the novel doesn't do a lot of the things it wants to do very well. There are basically no fights, the system basically doesn't exist. She has no problem running the kingdom where everyone adores her. Politics are very superficial. Then you have the merchant subplot. In short, it's fun, but you have to turn off your brain a little if you're even remotely critical.
