And then this moment where he looks at her reddened nose and ice crystals on her eyelashes and actually wonders if SHE'S worried about HIM? That's not the thoughts of a sociopath, that's the thoughts of someone who's probably never had anyone care about them before. And the clothes thing! I lost it when she freaked out about him throwing away her father's keepsake. Here's this dangerous, mysterious guy who clearly operates in the shadows, and he's got these two servants Qiufeng and Luoye standing over corpses like, "Do we have a mistress now? And she's a rural huntress?" Their reaction was priceless. They're clearly used to him being this terrifying figure and now he's got this girl chasing him around looking for laundry. The dynamic between them is everything. She's all fire and impulsiveness—he's ice and calculation. But that scene at the Imperial Prison where he grabs her wrist and demands to know WHY she chose him? That's not just suspicion, that's genuine vulnerability masked as aggression. And her response—"I chose you because you're good-looking!"—is either the bravest or stupidest thing she's ever done. Probably both. The fact that he almost smiles? Yeah, that's the moment I knew this relationship was going to be complicated.
I need to talk about the fight scene because holy shit. When Yan Wuxin faces off against four Spirit Master Junior Grade opponents simultaneously, the stakes feel genuinely real. She's not just fighting for a treasure—she's fighting for survival, and the author makes it clear she's at a disadvantage. The four are coordinated, working in sync, surrounding her completely. And then there's Yan Qixuan being trapped by the Fourth Prince and Yan Qingyu, unable to help. The tension is suffocating. What I love is how the author escalates it: first the tiger fight (external threat), then the political confrontation (social threat), then the ambush (immediate lethal threat). Each conflict raises the stakes higher. But the most intense moment isn't even the fight—it's when Yan Wuxin emerges covered in blood, her eyes like a god of death, and the Fourth Prince's legs literally start trembling. He's more afraid of her than his own father or third brother. That's when you know the power dynamic has completely flipped. And then Yan Wuxin collapsing from that spiritual pain? The stakes just got personal. It's not just about winning anymore—it's about what's happening inside her head. What is that? Is it related to her sealed Shenshi? Is Xiao Li trying to reach her? The author is layering conflicts so well here, and I'm dying to know what's going on with her.
I don't usually comment on dialogue but this author really knows how to make characters sound like actual human beings. Let me give you some examples because I'm obsessed. First, the opening exchange between Gu Beiting and Commander Zhao. Gu Beiting says "Please don't just laugh—say yes or no!" and Zhao responds with "You little rascal…" This is TWO LINES that establish their entire relationship. Zhao is the gruff-but-loving mentor figure, Gu Beiting is the respectful subordinate who's allowed to be a little goofy around him. The casualness of it feels SO real. Military men don't talk in full paragraphs. They talk in fragments and shorthand. Then there's Mu Youyou and Gu Beiting's conversation about the sewing machine: "buying it unused would be wasteful anyway" — said while swinging his arm playfully. This is such a specific, grounded detail. It's not just romance; it's two people making practical decisions together while being affectionate. That's how real couples talk. The gossiping military wives are also perfectly written: "Captain Gu is so considerate! Look how steady he's holding his wife—didn't let her fall a bit." This is exactly how people talk at a wedding. They're observing, commenting, making assumptions. And then the follow-up: "I heard she's from the capital and used to be a teacher." Gossip as exposition — brilliant. And Li Yumei's line: "If you keep looking at each other like this, it'll be dark before we know it. Save the rest for after the ceremony behind closed doors." She's the friend who breaks the tension, who gives permission for them to be a little less formal. It's funny, warm, and perfectly timed. The narrative voice itself is also doing a lot of work. It's close third person, mostly anchored in Mu Youyou's perspective, but it dips into Gu Beiting's head too. The tone is warm without being saccharine, observant without being clinical. And Cai Cai's dialogue as the system companion? "We system operators are principled—these things are automatically blocked." That line made me laugh out loud. It's a perfect tonal shift from the romantic tension to pure comedy.
Welp I'm a little late so I guess I lost the "first comment" crown, but I'm back at it again again with an obligatory five star self-review! Transcendent Gene is different from anything I've written before since it's futuristic fantasy with a lot more modern elements, but it's been really fun so far. When it comes to questions I should answer here...Well, for one, I don't know if it'll be harem for now. Most likely, it'll only be one wife. I would say best book I have ever read even though I came from adaptation but literally the BEST the plot twists the characters EVERYTHING IS WHOLESOME really recommended hoping for books like this one
This is just a new novel but I'm already so invested. The way we are being introduced to the characters, the fact that the FL is not like the typical reborn stories with bad family or step mothers is so nice. I love the writing and really commend the updating energy of the writer. I really can't wait for what the coming chapters bring

my selfish review is as follows: i really wish there were more chapters available to binge, because the story became really hard to put down after awhile ?.. in all honesty i would have given this novel five stars if there were bulk chapters as the story is worth supporting ?? great job author ???
Unexpectedly good I like his power and how the world setting is revealed bit by bit through the his progress instead of just info dumbing i dont like how week he is now but at least he is op for his rank and will only be more op as the story goes on. Just wish the grandma witch would explain stuff more to him so he dosent end in shit situation like he is now.
