Therefore, using the Handbook's limit for a short story of 15,000 words and Gardner's suggestion that a novella doesn't begin until the 30,000 word mark, I'm going to concern myself with these odd-duck works which fall in between 15,000 and 30,000 words -- according to my own painstaking calculations. I know these word counts mean very little to the typical reader, who will sense that a work is short or long or medium or very long or very short, but who won't think in terms of the actual number of words. So here are some commonly taught novels and a couple of frequently anthologized short stories: To Kill a Mockingbird (104,250 words), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn(108,575), The Great Gatsby (47,104), Jane Eyre(191,500), "Bartleby, the Scrivener" (13,692), and "The Fall of the House of Usher" (6,710). In Gardner's novella range are books like Heart of Darkness (37,746) and Wide Sargasso Sea(45,499).
The man roared like a tiger(pun intended) as he furiously swiped like there was no tomorrow. This time, with proper techniques. I wouldn't let this hit me, considering how his strikes are very heavy. I'm pretty sure my aura would quickly go bye-bye if I got hit by it a dozen or so times.
"The boom came from the floor below, it must have been you. Or Mr. Fox, but I believe Mr. Fox has some sense," I said, making it clear that I felt Wayne, in contrast, was senseless.
Mark---"not trying to be rude but what your name?"
Then he visualised that galaxy which is located in the ENTREF supercluster located over 300 million lightyears away. On seeing the magnified picture of the galaxy, he was astonished and just couldn't take his eyes away from the eyepiece of the telescope.
"How did you get to know about this galaxy, Damien" James asked.
"For those that have come later, it is wise to enter the lodging assigned to you." The middle aged man flicked his sleeve as house tokens with different numbers went to thousands of people.
Me: 'family huh...' I leave it to your uncle!... I got to go...
"Ah, I don't really want to take her orders."
'My liege, i cannot see anything from outside'
