I need to talk about He Yuan because this man is a treasure and I'm not even being dramatic. Here's a guy who runs a company, has a driver who is also his bodyguard, hangs out in private club rooms with wine, and the moment he hears his secretary might be crying on the phone, he just... leaves. Takes off his suit jacket and goes. No explanation, no hesitation. And the details! When Zhou Yunce answers the call on speaker, He Yuan kicks him lightly in the calf — that's such a small gesture but it tells you everything about their dynamic. They're close enough to touch without thinking about it. And then his friends are like "why's his neck stretched like a giraffe?" — I literally laughed out loud. The author doesn't need to write "He Yuan was deeply concerned" because the giraffe neck says it all. But what really got me is Lin Yue's relationship with Qin Yan. They've been roommates since college, they're close, and yet when Lin Yue is falling apart, she calls Zhou Yunce — an acquaintance from work — instead of her best friend. Not because she doesn't trust Qin Yan, but because she doesn't want to be a burden. And Qin Yan, meanwhile, is the one apologizing to neighbors and cleaning up messes while Lin Yue is busy confronting Qing Jing. Their friendship is real but it's also strained by the fact that they're both too proud to ask for help. And Qing Jing... god, Qing Jing. She's not a villain, she's just someone who watched her friend succeed and had no framework for processing it except resentment. "President He has always favored you anyway" — that line is so bitter and so revealing. She thinks Lin Yue got everything handed to her. She has no idea about the training, the pressure, the USB drive panic. She sees the surface and builds a whole narrative from it.
Is book 2 done, haven't read it yet because I don't like reading books until they are done and it said epilogue so just wanted 2 make sure
I am unsure how you stumbled across this book, but I am not disappointed. I have enjoyed reading this, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it ends.
