She goes from being the victim of Ma Zhiming's scheme to actively cooking, writing notes, and orchestrating a dog-mediated food delivery in the same afternoon. That transition alone is masterful pacing—she doesn't wallow, she moves. The confrontation with Grandpa Su Mao is where the pacing really shines. It starts slow—Su Wanwan and Su Heng arriving at the old house, finding no one cooking, getting offered rat-bitten sweet potatoes. Then Su Wanwan drops the 'poisoned sweet potatoes' line and things escalate FAST. Within minutes they're accusing him of trying to sell Su Wanwan to a fool, questioning her father's paternity, and threatening to call the whole village. The escalation is so natural you don't even notice it happening until you're already at maximum intensity. And then—the kitchen sweep. This is where the author could have slowed down for dramatic effect, but instead they just... kept going. Su Wanwan found the grain, Su Heng started throwing sacks down, Su Mao got distracted, and Su Wanwan methodically emptied the entire kitchen. It's a action sequence disguised as a domestic scene, and it's thrilling. The Lin Yu and Xie Beishen cooking scene in between acts as a perfect palate cleanser. After the high tension of the confrontation, you get a lighter moment with two guys cooking together, a funny dog, and a delicious-smelling lunchbox. It gives the reader a breather without losing momentum. The chapter ends with Su Heng threatening to expose everything if anyone from the grandmother's side comes causing trouble, and Su Mao sweating coldly. That's a cliffhanger that doesn't feel forced—it's the natural result of the confrontation escalating to its breaking point. The old man has to figure out his next move, and we're left wondering what he'll do. Honestly, the only thing I'd change is... nothing. This pacing is tight.
Let's talk about stakes, because this story keeps raising them in ways that actually matter. On the surface, Zeng Yan's conflict is simple: survive in the 1960s, make money, avoid the people who tried to kill her. But the deeper stakes are what make this compelling. She has to pretend to fetch water. She has to wear threadbare pants. She can't just buy a straw hat online and wear it without explanation. The abalone discovery raises the stakes even further - these aren't just seafood, they're generational treasures. A 327-gram abalone in the 1960s is worth a fortune later. But keeping them means she has to be smarter about what she sells versus what she hoards. And the live stream announcement at the end? That's a deliberate escalation. She's moving from passive selling to active performance, which means more visibility, more risk, but also more control. The author keeps asking: what happens when the system's magic has limits? What happens when someone like Zeng Fugui decides to come after her for real? The suspense is maintained because we know Zeng Yan is preparing - she sets up the phone to record, she's planning to buy an infrared alarm camera. She's not naive about the threats around her.
The idea is very good and somewhat new I hope that this novel will become famous because it deserves that

Nioh's passion is infectious, and the descriptions of his creations are vivid and technically interesting. If you appreciate detailed world-building and a deep dive into the creative process, this one's worth a look

Have you ever had high expectations and after reading a book had them exceeded? That's what just happened to me. Right from the first sentence, this book pulls you in and doesn't let go. Where should I start from? The main character?The author created a likeable MC that you can't help but root for. Kieran is the kind of person you'll want to have as a friend. Someone who embodies determination. It is said that evil thrives when good men do nothing. Kieran is one of those men who don't allow evil to thrive. A phrase that describes him can be found in game of thrones: "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken."But the side characters also shine. Frank, Miss Jane, the Dean, the Phoenix, all of them come alive in their own way to add color to the story.One of the things I'd also praise is the worldbuilding. Instead of dumping everything down our throat, the author reveals it slowly, piece by piece in a way that pulls you in.While chapter 15 was initially jarring for introducing such advanced tech, the more you read, the more it strangely fits. Kudos to the author.However, it would be a terrible disservice to just speak about all the good parts and neglect the bad parts.The only problem I had is the writing quality. And no, the grammar isn't bad. The only problem is that a lot of words are repeated a lot and it stands out. But even with that problem, the books still shines.While I've only read 20 chapters and no one knows what direction this book will take, I can confidently say that I'll keep reading.Keep up the good work, author. I'm looking forward to the next chapters.
